try getting
Easydivx 0.77
really easy to rip a movie and encode it. be sure to do it overnight or when you have plenty of time as it takes between 3-6 hours on my athlon 1400.
also, read the docs and try gordian knot. a bit more flexible but harder to use.
the steps involved are something like this.
1. decode main movie files from dvd to harddrive
use smartripper
2. decode audio / encode audio to mp3
3 encode vob files to movie file (get DVD2AVI)
4 multiplex the video and audio streams together
5 split over 2 cds or use just 1 cd if necessary
6 burn to cd
you can wrap up these processes in one using easydivx.
you need to get some information on video bitrates and audio mp3 bitrates and understand the process and all will be ok.

I suggest u get GordianKnot 0.21 bundle from download page. Then read the DivX -> 4.11 -> Gknot guide.

gordian knot really kicks ass and its better for understanding the process of dvd ripping. thats the problem with easydivx is that its too easy. i find it creates good 2 pass rips without any interference and will backup the movie in a few clicks. gordian knot is a little confusing at first but just read the guides.

No I do not unfortunately, I am not sure what all supplies I need to buy or if I need to even need to buy supplies for this. If anyone knows of good books that would teach me more on this. Or if I just down load the stuff here and start ripping them. I only have the computer and that is all I have. If I need to buy some equipment to go with my computer to start this process please tell me what I need to start this and I would appreaciate it, Thanks again for every one's patients.

ok , you need a DVD ROM drive for your pc. your pc should be at least 450mhz Pentium, i would say. but this will take a long time to encode a movie. i have an athlon 1400 and i can encode in real time no problems.
check the guides at
doom9.org
and also search for Nicks Guides on google.com. all the info is there in nice pdf format documents.

Hi Babygirl,
If I need to buy some equipment to go with my computer to start this process please tell me what I need to start this and I would appreaciate it, Thanks again for every one's patients.
No worries, thats what the forums here for! :)
My thoughts on what you need for your computer:
1 - The faster the computer the better. Well, actually, you can use any speed computer to backup dvds - it doesnt matter if your patient, just be aware that it will take a long, long time on a slow/old pc. The final result is still the same regardless of the pc speed tho.
2 - A dvd drive - any speed, tho once again itll take you less time with a faster drive (takes less time to transfer the files you need from the dvd onto ur pc).
3 - 11-12 Gb of free hard drive space. This may be a little high but its hard too say - different dvds require different amounts of space, so this is an outside figure. You actually can get away with less, but this would make the process a bit more complex as you may need to do half of the movie then join it all together afterwards for example.
4 - a cd burner is handy to transfer the the backups you make onto cd so your hard drive doesnt fill up with dvd backups too fast and you have to delete them.
Be prepared to do a little reading to educate yourself about the ways to backup dvds. Two sites i find invaluable
are:
-> www.doom9.net - all the software you need at one site,
the best guides to use it and these
forums.
-> www.digital-digest.com - go to nicky's guides from
main page
There are quite a few different methods that can be used to
backup a dvd - some easier than others - which give different quality results. The Gordian Knot method gives very high quality results and is reasonably newbie friendly. There are easier methods but the results are not as good quality.
For guides to this program, go to doom9,
click "the guides" -> "divx guides" -> "divx3.x" ->
"gordian knot"
Regardless of which method you choose you'll prolly feel a bit lost the first few times you attempt it and you may get stuck for a while - this is normal. :) Read the guides carefully, be patient, try things out and use the forums if you're stuck
Hope this is of some help..... and Merry Christmas to you! ;)
Bye!
P.S. Tell us how you get on with this. :)

Heh, isn't it spectacular how many people offer to help when a member is (or pretends to be) a girl? Now that's newbie-friendliness. Nothing wrong with it, we could use more ladies in an overwhelmingly male ripping world. :D
