Only want Forced Sub but display is All Subs

I'm trying to get Da Vinci Code subtitles to display correctly.

I have the movie split into 2 parts, in Xvid format. I have the english subtitles as sub/idx files.

When I open it with Subresynch I can see that does contain some forced subs.

I then altered the .idx files to
forced subs: ON

Within DirectVobSub in the system tray I choose 'DirectVobSub (auto-loading version)' and on the Main tab I tick 'Only show forced subtitles'

However, when I run .avi using Media Player 10 I am still getting ALL subtitles and not just the forced ones.

Ideas ?

Only solution I can think of is to manually cut out the non-forced subtiltes in my idx file, but that is a last resort.

It only mentions setting <forced subs : ON> in the .idx file. The plugin should pick this up when you play the movie. Have you tried only doing one or the other of your options - ie modifying the .idx OR changing the DirectVobSub option, but not both at once?
