Hi. I just bought Cars today and I decided to use RipIt4Me (installer version with update to version 1.54) for the first time to back it up. I used the one click option and ripped the DVD in about one hour. That seemed a bit long to me, but I don't know what to expect. I ripped it using DVDFab 3.035 and it took half that time.

I compressed the resultant files from RipIt4Me using DVD-RB version 1.0121 and was able to play the ISO file using virtual drive. So I burned the image onto a DVD using Roxio (which I had never had a problem with thus far) and I can't play the DVD. The disc will register and then stop. It happened with two discs.

I am about to use the ripped info from DVDFab to create a DVD5 disc of the movie, but it left me wondering about the quality of rips between these two programs. Currently, these are the easiest freeware ripping options that I have seen. AnyDVD (trial version, now over) did a great job in previous movies, but I wasn't sure I wanted to shell out $40 for a job that could be done for free.

In its current form, DVDFab certainly looks prettier now since it went into version 3 and above. How well does it rip? Are there concerns with the quality of the rip? What am I doing wrong with RipIt4Me and how good is it in comparison with DVDFab for rip quality? How does it compare with AnyDVD? I know that AnyDVD does a great job at keeping up to date, but I'm wondering about the quality of the rip? Are they all the same? Thanks.

Sounds like you gotta bad burn (and using Roxio is not the best burning solution either).

What media are you using? Switch to Vebatims (MCC dye) or Taiyo Yudens, if you're not already using them. And consider ImgBurn (www.imgburn.com) as your burning solution.

If DVD Rebuilder (http://dvd-rb.dvd2go.org/) has compressed it, there's no issue with the rip. RipIt4Me is the most compliant ripper around and DVD Rebuilder (http://dvd-rb.dvd2go.org/) produces lovely output.

As for timing of the rip, you might like to check "cycle tray after bad sectors" in your DVD Decrypter settings.

Good luck.

Thanks for the reply. I don't know...bad burn twice? I guess that is possible since I didn't shut down the computer or terminate the program. I guess one can consider it the same session. I was using Fuji-branded TY's and a Sony D21 MIJ.

Thanks for the suggestion for the "cycle tray". I'll try that. I'll give it another shot. I just can't figure out if it will burn without first burning since my virtual drive will not indicate a problem.

How do you feel about the different decrypting programs as questioned above?

Thanks again.

RipIt4Me is clearly the best out there, IMO.

Make sure your firmware is up to date. And do switch your media.

Firmware is up to date. Media isn't the problem since the DVDFab ripped version worked fine after compressing with DVD-RB. Ripping was faster with the option suggested on DVD Decrypter. In the end, a third attempt to use RipIt4Me failed to produce a viewable DVD. With the only difference being the method of ripping, both will produce an ISO file that can play using the virtual drive, but only the DVDFab one will play in my DVD player. The DVD player will start as if it will play the DVD and then stop. My guess is that it has removed a file needed to advance the DVD.

For RipIt4Me, I chose the full disc backup one click mode. Did anyone else choose this method and successfully create a disc with DVD-RB? Thanks for the help.

Update: I think I may have found my answer (http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?t=72482). I have a Panasonic DVD player and it may require that I untick the remove useless and tiny cells in RipIt4Me. I'll try that and see how it goes.

Well, I made a new disc. The first time I played it in my DVD player, it worked, but now it is having trouble starting up. The player states on a number of occassions that it is a "no play" disc. I realize that it is probably a hardware issue brought on by a disc issue. The player has no problems with commercial DVD's. It actually does well with AnyDVD ripped discs for some reason. This leads me to wonder if there are other removed "tiny" cells or files that are giving my DVD player a hard time.

Hi!

Try playing your burned DVDs on another standalone player - If necessary, try them on players in a retail electronics store.

It certainly sounds like your player is the source of your difficulties...

I have had a similar problem where after I use RipIt4Me I cannot do a "good" burn with Nero or Ashampoo. Restart my computer and burns then work fine. Problem was repeatable with two different burns on 7 DVDs on two different days (with a computer reset between the attempts).

I was thinking of the same thing. I played the discs on my in-law's player and it works just fine. Unfortunately, this means my DVD player has a problem with the discs. Oddly, home movies burnt on DVD's don't have a problem, just rebuilt DVD's. This DVD player is a Panasonic RV31 from over 4 years ago. I'm wondering if there is any way to salvage this little (well, it's actually big compared to today's players) player with respect to its ability to play rebuilt DVD movies. Maybe it's a problem with the lens. Haven't serviced it ever.

Maybe it's a problem with the lens. Haven't serviced it ever. Then you might want to try running a DVD/CD cleaning disc on it. Maxell makes one that sells for approximately $10US...

I haven't tried using RipIt4Me yet but anytime I've experienced a bad burn it may be because I'm trying to burn it at too high a speed. Repeating the burn at a lower speed usually results in success.
