View Full Version : DivX video with subs - info ...

Okay I posted something earlier but now it seems that it is no longer here. I don't know where it went or if it was deleted so I'll ask my question again.

I have a DivX video file (NOT an avi file). There are 2 subtitle tracks.

Whenever I select a subtitle track a green background appears with clear subtitles.

So now I have subtitles, but I can't see the image because there is this green block overtop of it.

How can I either - a) extract the subtitles; or b) make them appear without the green block (and not clear either).

One or the other will do. I just want to be able to watch this video!

Hi!I have a DivX video file (NOT an avi file). Please explain the distinction you are trying to make. Also, what software and procedures did you use to create this file? There are 2 subtitle tracks...How can I either - a) extract the subtitles; or b) make them appear without the green block (and not clear either). What software and procedures did you use to create them? - You should be able to use the same softwasre to modify the colors. What format are they in? If they're selectable (and, therefore, not burned as a permanent part of the video), why are you asking about how to extract them?

KDL is probably talking about a DivX Media File (*.divx) so subtitles are probably in XSUB format, and there is no tool available to demux that kind of subtitles.

why are you asking about how to extract them?He probably means demuxing them, because they are selectable.

There's no point in guessing what another poster means. Perhaps "KDL" will post back and state what he/she means...

Exactly the case.

Is there a way I can change the color so that the subs will apear without the colored box behind them?

Mux again the .divx file. Open it in VirtualDubMod, save as avi and use Sub2DivX to put the text subtitles again in the movie. You'll need just the text subtitles.

enjoy,
Mtz

All I need is the text subtitle? Can I extract the subtitles or do I have to do this manually!

You cannot extract the subtitle. Try some search in subtitles sites and find the subtitle matching for your movie and sync. it using subtitles workshop. When is done use Sub2DivX to mux your subtitle in the final .divx.

enjoy,
Mtz

There's no point in guessing what another poster means.Well, I wasn't actually guessing: I knew perfectly what he/she was talking about, because he/she was pretty explanatory.

I was just trying to help you understand him/her without being offensive, that's why I used expressions like "probably", "I guess...". But if that gets you upset, I won't do it again.

By the way, there's no point in asking why people want to do what they want to do, either. Like you did in: "why are you asking about how to extract them?".

@numaiosBut if that gets you upset, I won't do it again.Nothing regarding posting at forums gets me upset, although some things make me mildly curious - such as why you would go out of your way to criticize a posting I made almost two years ago...

Well, I do get upset when someone criticizes me when I'm just trying to help (like you did). And, by the way, it's obvious for me that you felt annoyed because you didn't understand what KDL meant and I did (which I find illogical since noone can know everything). That would explain you didn't show up anymore after KDL said "Exactly the case.", at least for saying "Oh, you were right. Sorry for being so unjustifiedly harsh."

And the reason why I criticize a posting you made almost two years ago is simply that I was trying to find a subtitle-related post and unfortunately I've found your unkind intervention "There's no point in guessing what another poster means." which I didn't respond to at that time.

Just one more thing: sometimes guessing what another poster means is necessary, specially when he/she is a beginner.

Much ado about nothing...

(And there is nothing in my post back then indicating any kind of "annoyance" or "harshness" of any type)

Bye.
