resolution and AR

I am having trouble with resolution and AR changes in autogk. My source resolution is 720 x 576 and I cannot get it to reproduce this size when converting to xvid. If I allow the program to choose using auto width I get 608 x 256 which is ultra thin and unsuitable. I choose keep original AR in the hidden settings and get the same, it is unchecked when I reopen the hidden settings. I have also tried usuing fixed width of 720 in the advanced settings. I have had this trouble with two movies now.
I am using the predefined size setting to 700.
Most of the time I get great results, I am not fussed if I dont get 720x 576 exactly, I am happy with 640 x 368 which I get mostly. I just dont want the ultra wide ratios and would like to know how to force the height as well as the width.

Did you check "Override input AR" and select "Original?" If you do not check Override it will not keep your setting.

Thanks for the tip, I did not have the override checked. Running another pass will see how it goes.

It should work. Just remember that on any of those settings the box at the lead must be checked for those settings to take effect.
