In another thread I got the tip to use Autogk to convert my dvd to div-x. A very fine tool, but there weems to be some problems regarding the subtitles.
After using dvd shrink there are some rest files (vob ifo etc) that I usually save on my hard drive. Some movies I also want to have as a div-x movie, then I use autogk and use those files that I have on my harddrive. Most of the time it works fine, but some movies the subtitle does not work.
If I extract the subtitle as a .idx .sub file with vobsub program and rund the .avi file on the computer it works fine, the sub shows imidiatelly on the screen with windows media player. But if I want the subs to be on the movie itself, that is inside the .avi file so you cannot choose it away. How can I do that?
Otherwise I cannot see the movie on my dvd with subtitle.
:thanks:

Hi!
One method to create permanent subtitles in an .AVI file is to use SubRip to convert the subtitles to ".SSA" format - and then use VirtualDub to combine them (To load the ".SSA" file, from the "Video" dropdown menu, select "Filters" and then select "Add" and then select "Subtitler").
Remember to set "Video">>"Compression" to the same codec and compression configuration used to create your original .AVI...

First of all. The subrip prgm causes problem with the swedish subtitle and I can't make it work.
Second of all, loading an already compressed avi file into virtualdub make some kind of warning come up where some header will change.
And finally, there are no subtitle option in under filters.
So sorry, but I couldn't make anything of what you wrote to work!

If, in fact, for some reason SubRip's OCR conversion function doesn't work, try usin "Subtitle Workshop"Second of all, loading an already compressed avi file into virtualdub make some kind of warning come up where some header will change. What audio format did you use when you created the .AVI?And finally, there are no subtitle option in under filters.I've had this filter on my system for years - and based on your post, I just nopticed that although the filter was created by Avery Leee, the author of VirtualDub, it isn't one of the "internal" (builtin) filters.
It should, however, be easy to find with a simple Googlesearch...

When you load an avi with variable bitrate audio virtualdub will give you that warning, just ignore it and use nandub afterwards to merge your new video with the original avi's audio.
Get the subtitler from
http://www.virtualdub.org/virtualdub_filters
then you can do this manually.
