anyone done any benchmarks with intel's new quad core cpu, Core 2 Extreme QX6700? Interested in what the results would be. Please post the command line that you used to make them with. Right now I only got a amd athlon 64 x2 4600+ s939 processor to encode with. And also the build you used to do the benchmarks with too would be helpful.

Magazine tests show that the new QX6700 is about 30% faster than your X2 4600+ with build 389 (How dare you say "only" for such a fast proc?! -- the best machine in my house has a P4HT@3GHz and I'm pretty proud of it man!)
So this QX proc is almost as fast as the normal E6700! So x.264 doesn't seem to be profiting from the additional cores.

Around 70% higher encoding speed can be expected from the QX in comparison with the X6800 if MainConcept's H264 encoder was to be used though (I guess if you have the money to buy the QX, you'll certainly have the money to buy MainConcept's encoder :D)

Or you could go and give ELDER a try. It's an add-on for xvid and x264 to make better use of multi-cores and windows clusters.

According to this (http://www.ixbt.com/cpu/images/intel-core2-extreme-qx6700/results.xls), from here (http://www.digit-life.com/articles2/cpu/intel-core2-extreme-qx6700.html), x264 encoding on a Core 2 Quad is about 65% faster compared to a dual-core C2D at the same clocks. The test was done using x264 rev 438, and the commandline used wasn't specified.

Actually, I made the first part of our review of QuadCore QX6700 processor on our site

www.maximopc.org

is all in spanish since we all are from argentina but, the screenshots and graphs are all in english.

I will make a direct comparison against its brother Core2Duo E6600 (2.4Ghz) and all sorts of Athlon64 processors (5000+ 2.6Ghz dualcore am2) and 3800+ (2Ghz 939) so, i was looking for advice, I need the latest version but i need it to be GUI, any advice on how to configure all that?
WIll be happy to include DivX 6 test also for all of you freaks :)

Since Im working on the Second Part right now (which is the one who is going to get all the Encoding Stuff.

Currently I'm using a Matrix fragment in HD (1920x1088) and I'm using Gordian Knot + DGindex, I have the file ready to be transcoded to MPEG4 AVC at a resolution of 1280x720 and see what happens.

The latest build with GUI I have is 523, is it any good?

Any extra advice on how to properly configure the encoder for maximum quality? I want to really stress this processor.

Please do not use such an old build. x264 is at revision 598.
With GUI you are not talking about the VFW GUI are you? If so please don't use that any more.

Since you already use DGindex you probably already use avisynth as well, if not then you should. :)
If you use MeGUI just select the profile you like... there are some really CPU intensive settings. Or use the command line directly, if you need help on those please speak up.

Strange. The test I saw confirmed the equalness of QX6700 and E6700 even with build 573...

There's already a discussion about quadcores here: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=117756

Im already using such and old build and believe me, the difference is really there, if benchmarks do not show then it means the one who did the benchmark didn't knew how to properly configure the encoding...

I attach the graph which should be up on the MaximoPC review, please do not distribute, since the review is not online yet.

I give to you as a gift for such a wonderful page doom9 is.

Cheers.

Remember, I'm not such a freak as you guys, you really know how encoding works (yes, i use DGIndex and manage Avisynth scrips with easy) but I'm not as generic as tom's hardware and others.

I'm not comparing to them, but, related to video and encoding, I still have to see a hardware review site who does serious encoding.

Part of my work is to do and learn the most quality encoding possible

When I submit my interest of do x264 encoding to Intel, they proposed that x264 is not such a big difference against DivX in quality, which you guys already know the answer, so, basically, the review sites are not so specially devoted to video.

Lucky, I am, I do encoding almost all of my free time, the reason why I choose this old x264 version is that I have to teach all of the encoding process to all the guys that are helping me in the reviews and so far, CLI is far fetched for them, when I learn how to automatize the process you will see more updated benches..

So far, this old very old x264 version is showing big increases, as you saw.

Keep you posted... the review should be up tomorrow
