You can try CCCP (http://cccp-project.net/).
Itīs not really a codec pack, itīs more a filter pack, but with it you can view almost everything!

Please get the latest ffdshow from ffdshow-tryouts (http://ffdshow.info/)!
The official ffdshow site is abandoned!

That said, here's what's in it: -

What version of ffdshow do they pack with CCCP ???
Do they build the (outdated) official version or do they use the latest ffdshow-tryouts builds?
Don't like to check myself now ;)

It uses one of the last pre-tryouts builds, when vm9 and haruhiko were building off big patches against the original. It looks like they haven't put out a new build since tryouts was founded.

foxyshadis is right, as can be seen on the Announcements (http://www.cccp-project.net/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page) page.
There's nothing "evil" in the installer, it's what would normally be used when trying to play media files (the dates are wrong, though) list of stuff (http://www.cccp-project.net/wiki/index.php?title=Advanced_FAQ).
CCCP was meant for a certain community and caters to the interests of that community quite well. It has a comprehensive wiki (although it starts to show some age here and there) and a forum where even the most computer illiterate individual can find some help on how to play media files. It's meant to be "stable" and work on most people's computers.
There's also a little bit of dialogue with some of the developers in the video world which makes it possible to either suggest a feature or to point out when something doesn't work as it should be.

@klumy:
Then you should get latest ffdshow-tryouts and *not* CCCP !!!
