How can you tell if a DVD backed up on your PC (VOB format, etc.) is anamorphic? Can IFOedit tell you? Can you tell by using PowerDVD?

Any help is appreciated, guys. Thanks!

Usually it will say on the box. But, you can check the domain attributes - if the video is 16:9 and you take a screen capture and the picture looks distorted, then it is anamorphic for sure.

Yes, I don't trust the box half the time. I know for a fact many say anamorphic when they are not and vice versa.

In PowerDVD there is a menu option while playing that says "keep aspect ratio". On some movies checking and unchecking this tag causes no change -- these I assume are non-anamorphic transfers. If the screen stretches when I select this option I have been assuming that means an anamorphic picture.

If anyone knows otherwise please let me know. I haven't tried a screen capture yet. Wouldn't that just give me an exact image of what I am viewing?

Thanks again

No, you need something that actually captures the frame, not the screen. I use the PgcEdit (http://www.videohelp.com/~r0lZ/pgcedit/index.html) previewer to make a BMP. That will show you in a flash.
