Hey everyone. It's my first post on your forum, looks like a great resource. I have, for some time, used Dr. DivX and Virtualdub to copy movies. My process has been to decrypt using DVD decryptor, use Dr. DivX to convert the file, and use VirtualDub to cut the file down to 2 segments, which can then be used to burn onto 2 cds.

I know that DVD burners are much cheaper now. However, until I get one, I have to continue using this process.

My problem has been (and this started a while ago, but I haven't been able to figure it out), I can encode a movie fine. However, once I import into virtualdub, I get a message that the audio will be skewed, and this does indeed occur. I used to only have this problem rarely, and I was usually able to fix it. I want to say there was some update a while ago that DivX tried to do, and the problem started then. However, it seems now that every movie I create has this problem, and it's near impossible to fix. Does anyone 1) know what would cause it, and 2) know maybe another good program to split / edit these movie files?

I'm using Dr. DivX 1.0.5, and I'm using VirtualDub 1.5.10 or 1.6.2.

Thanks in advance for help. SOrry if this was covered in another thread, I searched to no avail.

If the message is prompting you to rewrite the header for the audio, just select "No." The cause is VBR MP3 audio.

Yes Vdub can cut avis with vbr if you just click no.

Gordian Knot (http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/gordianknot/GordianKnot.RipPack.0.35.0.Setup.2.exe?download) can do all the stuff that the Dr can plus it can fix audio skew and can split the avi in to exact cd size for burning but its a bit harder to use initially.

Thanks for the replies thus far. However, I'm not being given a choice by Virtualdub upon opening the video file. The message reads, "Virualdub has detected an improper VBR audio encoding in the source AVI file and will rewrite the audio header with standard CBR values during processing for better compatibility. This may introduce up to 24432 ms of skew from the video stream. If this is unacceptable, decompress the *entire* audio stram to an uncompressed WAV file and recompress with a constant bitrate encoder. (bitrate: 162.2 +- 15.0 kbps).

Thus, I can't reply "No." It only lets you hit "okay." I would do what VB is suggesting, but unfortunately this is greek.

If I play the DivX file post-processing, it plays fine. I don't knwo why VB is getting it mixed up when I try to import it.

I would also be open to another good editiing software, although VB has been really good in the past so I hate to switch up (plus it's free).

Use VirtualDubMod instead of VirtualDub. This way you'll get the choice not to rewrite the header.

Awesome, thanks! That looks like it will work. What are some other advantages to using virtualdub mod? :thanks:

What are some other advantages to using virtualdub mod?

Mainly support for ac3, Ogg & Matroska, I guess. For more info check out the VirtualDub & VDubMod forum either here or at www.virtualdub.org
