I'm using the 64 bit version of virtualdub, and I can't get it to see xvid, or huffyuv under video > compression.

I've been searching all over the internet and I cannot find the 64 bit version of huffy, although I know there is one. I also am having trouble finding the 64 bit version of xvid.

Basically I'm using the 64 bit of vista rc2, and would like to go ahead and use xvid as well as huffy in 64 bit, might as well as it will save me a lot of time.

Can someone please help me get the downloads as well as point me in the right direction?

Downloads are at: http://members.optusnet.com.au/squid_80/

There's not a lot of time to be saved, maybe 10% at best.

I've got the same problem as the original poster. I've tried Vdub64 1.6.17 and 1.6.3. They both see huffyuv64 but neither sees xvid64 and I can't open xvid files to edit because of it.

I'm using Vista Ultimate x64 and I've tried to install the squid's xvid64 codec but the inf files won't work for me. I've installed Celtic Druid's xvid64 via his installer and that hasn't worked either. The xvidcore.dll and xvidvfw.dll are in syswow64 directory, but they aren't being seen.

Is there something I'm missing here?

[EDIT]
Okay, turns out I just needed to put the files in the same directory as Vdub. This runs contrary to some advice I saw that said not to do so in bold. That person lied.

64-bit versions belong in system32. 32-bit versions belong in syswow64.

:D How backwards is that... Way to go Microsoft :)

Let us know how things work. I haven't toyed with 64 bit stuff in awhile (except on my Ubuntu Fiesty box, which is cake)

Is that really the way it is ???

I am just setting up a 64bit encoding vid editing box and that is a really bit mess up, if they cant get that write, what about the hard stuff ?

Trust me that's how it works. 32-bit programs see syswow64 as system32. Hence if you write a program to look for dlls in system32 it will work in either 32 or 64 bit mode.

When you say it like that it does make more sense... but the other way just seemed silly and almost like a joke.

I added both 32 and 64bit files to my installer, so it installs to both sys dirs and adds both sets of registry keys. It was written and tested under XP x64 though. No idea about Vista.

Thanks C_D your mirrors are some of the first I check for new stuff, and as far as Vista goes I have zero interest in it.
