Using DVD Shrink, I can successfully copy a DVD. However. when I look at the files via windows explorer, they have the extension MPEG. This is a problem when I try to burn as the software is looking for VOB files.
Can anyone help me please? Thanks.

Are the files indicated within Windows explorer as MPEG video files, or is the actual extension ".MPEG"? If it's the latter, just change it. If it's the former, it won't affect your burning program since it doesn't care what Windows thinks they are. It would also be helpful to know which burning software you're using and what exactly you're doing with the ripped files.

More than likely you have PowerDVD installed and associated with VOB files - it labels them as MPEG file. Nothing to worry about. If you wanna change it, use Tool-Folder Options-File Types in Window$ Explorer.

Thanks CWR03 and blutach.
The files do not have mpeg as an extension (in fact they don't any any extension, eg VTS_01_1) - they are displayed as type MPEG.
And yes I do have PowerDVD installed.
I am using nero to burn the ripped files. In fact, as it has turned out, it wasn't so much the file names I was having problems with, it was the DVD media I was using. My DVD dribe doesn't seen to like the RW type.
Thanks for your help again guys.

windows explorer:
tools > folder options > view, in "advanced settings" deselect "hide extensions for known file types".
it's a tad annoying that windows went soffcoch and doesn't display extensions by default - obviously to placate the mac users.
the files will actually be .VOB
