i visit this forum almost ALL the time :p and have noticed that quite a few people are worried about file size, bitrates, and similar stuff. especially newbies like myself.
to perhaps reduce some of the frustration of getting an undersized/oversized video, why don't we post our stats after we get that elusive perfect encode. by stats i mean all the pertinent info from the bitrate and resolution tabs of the program.
now, for me half of the fun is waiting to see what i get in the morning after a night of encoding, but i sure would be happier with a perfect encode in the long run.
what do you think?

I get perfect results everytime with DivX 3.11 (Nan Dub), but I haven't had as good of luck with DivX 4 (Virtual Dub).

hmmm, latelly DivX 4 has given me better results than DivX 3 for 1 CD rips, when going down as low as 600-800kbps, the quality has really surprised me, I would never have gotten the same results with DivX 3 (from earlier experiences!), and the quality is really nice...
I guess I'm not seeing why should I go back for 3.11, maybe only for 2 CD rips...

I agree that the quality is better with DivX 4.11. I'm just saying the accuracy of file size is closer to the estimate with divX 3.11. I think this has a lot to do with the advanced technologhy of Nan Dub over Virtual Dub. Hopefully they will one day make an SBC version of Virtual Dub with support for DivX 4.11.

I'm encoding 3 movies, with a cap at 1450 MBs each, do you guys suggest I downgrade back to DivX3.11 or stick with my 4.11? (The cap is so high because I will then take those three movies, and stick them onto one DVD-R CD, which roughly gives you 4.7 GB of space on each.)
Will 3.11 yield better quality results with that size than 4.11?

JayTray, the problem with filesize in DivX 4 is not VirtualDub or NanDub related, it's a DivX 4 Codec problem itself...
