Hi,
I have a movie that is split into two 700 MB .avi files, with two accompanying .srt subtitle files. The avi files are .xvid at 25 fps and have .ac3 audio at 448 kb/s.
I took a quick look at an Avi2Dvd guide, having not used this program before..
Is the program Avi2Dvd capable of converting these two files to a single DVD movie? Or will it only work with a single .avi file?
Thanks in advance for any info.

It would be far easier, and will yield better quality, if you re-rip from your original DVD.

Perhaps it was recorded using a capture card...not sure what's with all the second guessing of sources lately.

Anyway, you can join srts using subtitle workshop and you can join avis using VirtualDubMod. Then you'd have one set of files.

Also in two 700MB parts?

This isn't the Avi2DVD forum anyway.

Thanks for the info. Maybe joining them to one file first is the way to go.

With accompanying .SRT subtitles?

They are just text files, anyone can write them...you can download home made ones (legally, AFAIK) off the web.

A guy has asked how to convert a couple of avis with srts, that's all, so if one is applying rule 6 in a legal way (which, unless I am mistaken, was the original purpose) rather than a 'moral' way, there's no need to try to induce admissions or play silly buggers. I'm sure there's no shortage of people who ask questions about backuping dvds they don't own, but they are not drilled about their source unless an admission is made.

Anyway, katana that is the typical approach. Unless the avi is busted around the join the results will be fine.

As long as you are belaboring this non-issue that you raised by saying, not sure what's with all the second guessing of sources lately.in response to a simple suggestion by "CWR03",It would be far easier, and will yield better quality, if you re-rip from your original DVD., try hard not to overlook the point made by "Celtic_Druid" regarding the likelihood of "capturing":Also in two 700MB parts?

I didn't raise the issue of source...assuming that the avis are sourced from a commercial dvd is a "second guess". A comment such as "If the original source is a commercial dvd, then...." is not though :)

But that aside, 700 MB is the size of a CD, it is common that.

If you look at the doom9 avi2dvd guide you will see it talks about joining multiple avis as "Many AVIs have been split over multiple CDs".

If one wants to get picky, all sorts of posts could get closed because the source "might" be questionable.

Matthew, I'm sure any help offered by you is appreciated by those that ask and don't be put off from doing so in the future.

If a comment from a non-moderator is a cause of irritation, simply ignore it. It's easier than being sucked into an argument you didn't go looking for.

oh, nearly forgot. If anyone *IS* messing about with dodgy sources they deserve to hang. Is that subtle enough? :)

Enough with the bickering.
I don't care who said what first or whatever.
I see no rule 6 violation here so let's have no talk of questionable sources, fishing for incriminating info or suchlike - just let it drop guys.

The topic of how to get 2 avi's with subs onto 1 DVD is pertinent to this forum and to the doom9 community in general and so can we please keep the focus (rule 3) and keep the discussion about the thread topic.

The announcement on copyright matters over in Newbies states:
2. No help will be provided in regards to downloaded files. We won't walk the extra mile to clarify the legality of your files. We believe that this is unproductive and the members shouldn't put Doom9’s Forum in this position.

This is because otherwise every thread with the term "AVI" in it tends to become a mish-mash of accusations and counter-accusations. Let's keep the discussions here productive please.

Cheers
Nick
