The DVD's I recently back up play perfectly fine on my desk top, but won't play at all on my laptop. I thought it was my old version of cyberlink power dvd, so I upgraded to 5.5 and it still won't play on my laptop. Here is something weird, the ones I back up before are okay to play. I use Fujitsu dvd's. I ran out so I bought some more with the same make, the new ones I bought are the one giving me problems on my laptop. I am confused, the new ones I just bought are the same name, which is Fujitsu. Help.

Are they both DVD+R or -R? Load one of each disk and open DVD Decrypter in ISO > Read mode and post the Disk info.

Is that the disk info from the new disks or the old ones? I asked for both to try and eliminate the media as the problem.
Disc ID: PRODISC-R05-01
Sounds like crap media to me.

Hi!Disc ID: PRODISC-R05-01This Manufaturer's ID ("MID") has a VERY poor reputation.
Chances are, your earlier Fujitsu media (that plays successfully on your laptop) has a different "MID". Please do check an older disc, as suggested by "CWR03".
BTW - Do your older burned disc NOW play on your laptop?

Yup - they are pretty lousy stuff and have probably degraded.
Get Verbatims (MCC dye) or Taiyo Yudens.

I have some, and somewhat similar, problems with Ricoh 16X DVD-R discs. I can perfectly read and write those discs on my NEC 4551a unit and newest burners/readers, but most of the DVD-ROM/RW drives dont like them. Some of them need just a firmware upgrade (like my asus DVD-ROM) but even older NEC burners (even the 3550) with the newest firmwares just dont recognize them.
I swear coz the disc quality seems REALLY GOOD.
Disc info:
CMC MAG. AM3
CMC Magnetics Corporation
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for all the response
Yes, my older Fujitsu can still play on my laptop. I guess I need to return these new ones back to Best Buy.

I have an old Dell Latitude laptop, its probably 6 years old, are these DVD makes going to work with my old laptop ?

They will work better in any drive than anything else going around.
A 6 yo drive might be well on the way out. You can try a drive cleaning kit but a new drive might be in order, too.

Hello again
Do you think I need to just upgrade the firmware of my dvd rom drive ?

It can't hurt. Old firmware may not recognise newer media. Keep it up to date, for sure

Just be sure to get the right firmware for your unit.
Newer firmware usually fix some issues and add new media support.

I have a Dell Latitude C600. When I went to check the properties of the CD/DVD rom drive, this is what I got, QSI CDRW/DVD SBW242U. Would this be the make of this drive ? Can you tell me where I can get the firmware update on this unit ? I check the Dell website for my machine and I did not see anything with this make of CDRW/DVD combo drive. Is this fairly easy to do ? Can you guys give me a step by step procedure ? What kind of risk am I taking here ? Please help.

Hi
Thanks for this link. I was on it last night and I used the UD27firmware update on my laptop. It updated successfully, but still would not play the new Fujitsu DVD. The old Fujitsu have a different MID. Their former manufacture were a lot better. Wish me luck in returning these new Fujitsu DVD back to Best Buy. Thanks again. They may not have Verbatim make, do you have any other suggestions beside what you mentioned ? What about Sony ?

Most BestBuy locations are usually well-stocked in both Verbatim and good quality, highly compatible SONY media...

If you have a Fry's electronics nearby, the "GQ" brand disks have always been either Sony or TY (usually Sony) and have always worked flawlessly for me in every way. They go on sale every other Monday for $9.90 per spindle of 50. You can also get them at outpost.com (Not actually Fry's online, but pretty close).
