changing size of picture

Greetings, I have an avi file that avicodec tells me is 352*480. I use diko to convert and as i live in pal land i choose pal settings. Now when encoding is finished the picture is stretched. The picture is also stretched when i choose ntsc settings in diko and convertxtodvd.

Based on the resolution, I think your source is NTSC XSVCD. Anyway, it is anamorphic and should be resized to 4/3 or 16/9.

Thanks for the reply, I did resize to 352*288 (pal) using virtualdub and then set encoding to 704*576 and with ratio 4:3 letterboxed top and bottom, looks good. Do you think the picture might look better at 16:9 on my widescreen?
