View Full Version : "Calculate frame-overhead" in GK when encoding to XviD: checked or unchecked?

Hello to everybody!

When I calculate bitrate with Gordian Knot 0.35.0, I always check "Calculate frame-overhead" (when encoding to XviD).

But I just realized that if I select XviD, by default it's unchecked, if I select DivX 5, DivX 3.11 or x264, it automatically gets checked. And if I select XviD again, it gets disabled again.

So should I leave it disabled when encoding to XviD? Can that explain the fact that I always get a file which is 5 Mb smaller?

Thanks in advance.

You should leave it unchecked for XviD... but remember to select your audio type in the "Audio 1:" and "Audio 2:" menus. Otherwise you'll get undersized/oversized files.

but remember to select your audio type in the "Audio 1:" and "Audio 2:" menus.Of course! I just thought the audio type setting was enabled only if you checked "calculate frame-overhead". A terrible mistake, I see now.

Thank you very much for your help!

EDIT: By the way, do you know why it's not necessary with XviD but it is with the other codecs?

XviD already accounts for AVI overhead when encoding with GK... why, and why other codecs don't, I really couldn't say.

XviD already accounts for AVI overhead when encoding with GKOK, I got it.
Thanks a lot, nixo!
