let me say that xvid rocks. i just found this tool and have not had a problem. i have been using it to archive mpg2 recordings i captured of TV programs usnig an ati all in wonder card.
normaly i capture video at 352x480 interlaced using variable bit rate max of 3 and min of 2.4. i get good quality video that i can put 4 hours directly on to a dvd.
now that i'm using xvid i need to work on a capture profile intended for xvid compression. it seems like the better capture quality results in a better xvid and the output file size is the same.
i have been usnig a 2 pass method to compress 1.0gb files to 1/3 cdr like 300mb. it takes about an hour to encode an hour of mpg. not too bad but i would like to optimise my settings.
would going to a constant bit rate speed up the process?
would going to 640x480 capture improve quality without increasing encoding time?
what i'm looking for is a good bang for buck mpg profile that results in good quality and is easly encoded to xvid.
