I see this thread never went anywhere.... too
bad, cuz I got the same problem. The final
file size makes me think that the audio IS
indeed there, and the log file seems to say
it is, too...?
I can play the raw AC3 files in my player, but
no sound comes out when I play the final AVI file.
Is this a codec issue???
Attached GKnot log file
THANK YOU in advance for any tips!
/edit:
grrr. i attached the log file (as a .txt even), and
when editing the post, it tells me the attachment is there,
but when just plain viewing the message, it isn't there...
what gives?!?!?!?!

I too have this problem. I converted to DivX4.02 [2 pass GKnot 0.23] with 96kbps VBR and the resulting .avi showed a file size that seemed to incorporate a sound track, but no sound played [BsPlayer]. So I remuxed the video with the converted Lame [3.91] mp3 in Nandub and then everything worked fine?! Weird or just me f&^king up.....?

Actually, the problem is not with GKnot
from what I have been able to tell....
to play the audio in Windows Media Player,
you need to install these audio filters:
http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/Files/Audio/audiofilters.zip
This solved the problem for me, although I still
cannot figure out how to switch audio tracks.
It was suggested to me to use PowerDivX 3.12,
since it is specifically built to play avi's
with ac3 audio. But I have been having serious
problems using it under Windows XP.

Yep, I understand that MS player doesn.t like Ac3 audio without the codecs installed, but I understand that that is doesn't like VBR mp3 also? Anyway, the film I encoded [VBR mp3] didn't play with audio in MS palyer OR BsPlayer? After a remux in Nandub, all is now ok?! Hmm.....

go to the download section, and click "show all files". you'll need the audio filters, and there is another file that contains what you'll need to switch in between audio tracks (read the file descritions, it will say). install those, and you will be able to switch fine. also, try using ZoomPlayer. WMP plays everything back badly (video and audio). i've yet to encounter a problem with ZoomPlayer.
after i put all those on, WMP plays anything i throw at it, but it i don't like it still.

Indeed - I wish I could use PowerDVD instead.
In any case, on Win XP Pro I cannot get the
stream switcher to work with WMP (XP comes with
WMP8), and ZoomPlayer also doesn't want to
recognize the second AC3 track in my avi.....
I'm totally at a loss as to how to access that
2nd track.

After several attempts, I still cannot make a Divx 4 avi that has working audio. Both machines have xp installed, and the encoding machine has gknot installed on it. I still have the mp3 files made by gknot, and those work fine, and the video plays fine... This is driving me nuts!
Thanks for any help,
Queso
P.S. I tried to install the audiofilters, but the link seems to be dead... Oh, and I am using VBR-MP3, so I don't think it is an AC3 issue?

Your problem is not an AC3 problem, since you have
successfully converted your audio to MP3 -- when
you started encoding, did you make sure to tick the
"Finally Mux" checkbox in the audio tab? If there
are two avi files in the directory you were working
in, make sure you are playing the one that is larger....

did you install the full pack? you need nandub for audio-muxing.
