View Full Version : Menus hang up

I've been having good success backing up my movies with RipIt4Me,DVDDecrypter and FixVTS for a while now. However the last two I did played fine with PowerDVD on my pc, but after burning to a disc and playing in my set top player, all the menus hang up for 10 - 15 seconds, and then go on. Also sometimes the selection pointer will not show up. What could be causing this?
Thanks,
Ken

Hi!
What are the specific DVD Titles and Regions that exhibit this behavior?

The Sentinel and X-Men 3, both region 1.

1) Neither of those contain any "special" or newer copy protection - and, assuming you're compressing to DVD5, should be readily dealt with by DVD Shrink alone (or DVD Decrypter plus your favorite compression program).
2) Do the burned DVDs play properly on your PC? If so, the problem may be with your standalone player.

Well I'll be! ... I honestly didn't even try the pc player, since I only watch movies on my bigscreen, but they both play fine! Go figure,eh? I've backed up dozens of my movies and never had that problem till now. BTW .. I don't compress. I burn them to a Verbatim DL. I just run RipIt4Me with DVD Decrypter+FixVTS, check it with PowerDVD and burn it with Nero 6.6 .. no coasters! Thanks for the input ... I'll have to scrutinize my set top player.

burn it with Nero 6.6Although I too use NERO 6.6.xxx to burn such DVDs, many others here will STRONGLY advise you to use (freeware) "IMGBurn" to burn D/L media. They say it does a better job of determining and setting the layerbreak - which is critical to a successful D/L burn.
You may want to run a DVD/CD cleaning disc on your standalone player. Maxell makes one that sells for approximately $10US.
