A section of a movie I'm trying to re-encode bounces. It's NTSC 29.97fps. If it's ITVCed to 24fps I can see, stepping through it in VirtualDub, that the picture shifts down every 24th frame and back up on the subsequent frame. In some places it seems like theres a very slight shift down on the 23rd frame and up on the 26th frame frome the last jump.

I don't know exactly what I need to do to get rid of this, if there is any way. I'd appreciate it if anyone could take a look at a clip and show me what can be done.

use deshaker or depanstabilize to compensate this after IVTC

Neither of these worked sastisfactorily in this case. The frames also seem, for a couple of previous, to be stretched in the upper half and compressed in the lower half in addition to shifting down on the 24th frame, and then reversed on the next couple of subsequent frames. I don't know what the cause is. The source is a DVR recording of a VHS recording of a broadcast film.

DepanStabilize produces a clip where some part of the image appears to shrink and expand, which is more annoying than the bobbing.

DeShake works well in some sections but gives the same effect as DepanStabilize in others. It also does some weird and wonderful things by including the black borders in scenes that actually have panning.

I didn't think it would be fruitful to pursue either of these any further so I rephrased the question to go another direction in a new post.

This didn't achieve the result I'd hoped for either.
