I get voice messages from lingo encoded into my email, but i can't play them, get this error "missing codec". Speaking to them they are clueless, but told me it's encoded in Microsoft CCITT-u Law which according to attached picture it's installed on my PC. but still any player including graphedit gives an error missing codec. only MPC gives this additional information:

Stream 0
Wave Parser

Media Type 0:

AM_MEDIA_TYPE:
majortype: MEDIATYPE_Audio {73647561-0000-0010-8000-00AA00389B71}
subtype: Unknown GUID Name {00000011-0000-0010-8000-00AA00389B71}
formattype: FORMAT_WaveFormatEx {05589F81-C356-11CE-BF01-00AA0055595A}
bFixedSizeSamples: 1
bTemporalCompression: 0
lSampleSize: 256
cbFormat: 20

WAVEFORMATEX:
wFormatTag: 0x0011
nChannels: 1
nSamplesPerSec: 8000
nAvgBytesPerSec: 4055
nBlockAlign: 256
wBitsPerSample: 4
cbSize: 2 (extra bytes)

I also found this website:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/forpros/format/codecdownload.aspx

tried that codec, still no go.

from mediaplayerclassic output "formattype: FORMAT_WaveFormatEx {05589F81-C356-11CE-BF01-00AA0055595A}" I found a lot of google hits on that but no conclusive how to download a codec or how to fix an ill installed one.

any ideas? I can send a sample message but only to individuals who want a crack at it.

Exactly the same problem except that format is encoded in my 3gp files recorded with SE W810 mobile phone, ffdshow is of no help

The problem is in IMA ADPCM Audio Codec originaly supplied with Windows but some programs (Nero 7, ffdshow?) may corrupt installation when installing/deinstalling

Try this link (http://www.free-codecs.com/guides/How_to_install_default_codecs_in_Windows_XP_2000.htm)
