Why use it ,Ive had a DIVX player and encoder on my comouter because I received some free software ,with some hardware.But I never used it .What are the pros and cons?

For a terrific objective analysis of the qualities and capabilities of DivX, an MPEG-4 ASP codec, please see Doom9's Codec Comparisons (http://www.doom9.org/codec-comparisons.htm). You will find several analyses of DivX made over several years.

There are many members here who use DivX, and there are many members here who use other MPEG-4 codecs.

To make it short: It can give You better quality with equal filesize or same quality with lower filesize compared to mpeg2.
But You need more encoding/decoding-power
