Hi there!
Maybe there's someone out there that can help me with this.

I'm getting the "well known" Error 1722 when installing JRE... I tried theproposed fixes i found googlin' for it but none solved my problem.

I guess the error is related to the fact that I have a Java icon on my Control Panel but that icon leads nowhere 'cause i simply uninstalled Java... now... what can I do to solve this or where can I remove that entry from my Control Panel? is there an entry on registry?

I really don't want to make a full clean Windows Installation at this time... please tell me that I'm not the only one having this problem :)

Thanks in advance.

Dunno about this specific error code, but I've also had bad surprises when installing/uninstalling JRE's. >_<"

However, if ever you were "stupid" enough (you aren't but I felt so dumb after doing this ;)) to delete everything that was in the "C:\Documents and Settings\<yourusername>\Local Settings\Temp" folder, you're out of luck, since the java .msi install/uninstall package was in there (and this is the one which is launched when you uninstall it from the "Install/uninstall programs" tool).

Once I had deleted everything in there, I couldn't install a new JRE/JDK, nor uninstall any of them.

I ended up doing a clean system format (because much more than just the Java installer's were b0rked anyway :p), but I suppose some regedit hunting would have solved the problem (deleting some keys containing the "Sun" substring ? Hunting down the place(s) in the registry where the installed apps are referenced ? Dunno, just a guess :)).

Well... I found the solution... thank god!
All I had to do was to delete the file jpicpl32.cpl from System32 folder then i tried an installation that failed... uninstalled again... another try on the "offline" installer and the miracle happened... my JRE is working as good as new :)
