Hi to all of you guys.
I am more or less a noob regarding the x264 codec. I searched but couldn't find the installer for that codec. I went to Gordian Knot and tried to set the settings for X264 codec but when I click first pass nothing happens. It seems I don't have x264 installe but I don't know how to install it!
Thanks for any tips regarding this problem

x264 doesn't need to be installed, it's a command-line application (x264.exe), which you can download here : x264.nl
Put it in GK's directory or in another directory that is in your computer's PATH and that's all there is to it.

It's the same thing. I tried to put the exe in GordianKnot directoty but it is the same thing. It won't open in Gordian Knot.

@DarkZell : GK uses the vfw codecs...
@SimSalaBim : Grab an installer here (http://gabextreme.googlepages.com/x264vfwunited).

Now that is what I was looking for. Works like a charm. Thanks a lot Kurtnoise.

Huh but it seems x264 is not an uption for me right now. I tried with Megui and HQ-Slower profile and it would took me 5 hours to encode 15 min video hehe (I have 512 machine).

that's because your using a profile meant for extreme quality. if you set the same settings in vfw (which you can't fully) you would go just as slow.......

@DarkZell : GK uses the vfw codecs... ouch, I knew it too :p (didn't ... it just came off the very top of my head as something obvious xD)
@SimSalaBim : it'll be rather slower than XviD in any case, but it's well worth the quality gain :in most cases you can get the same quality with a 1.5x to 2x smaller file, so imagine the quality you'll get with the file being the same size ... ;).

maybe use a profile that doesn't have 'slow' in the name ;) CE-Mainprofile or CE-Highprofile are two I'd recommend

Hi!
When I try to encode x264 it takes 3h to encode it is it normal?
Or can I change anything in the codec to make it faster but not to put the quality down so much?
I have the standard settings now for the codec.
Fakt about the tv show:
30min
733mb output file
Res: 1280x720
My computer:
AMD 2x 64 6000+ 3,0ghz
3gb ddr2

Hi!
When I try to encode x264 it takes 3h to encode it is it normal? Hmm considering the resolution and bitrate I'd say it looks normal, but you do have an 3ghz dual core cpu, so that suddenly looks a tad longer than I'd expect. Do you have any filters enabled ? What's the framerate ?
As for specific options you can read DeathTheSheep's guide for configuring x264 VFW (http://gabextreme.googlepages.com/DeathTheSheep_x264_VfW_guide.html), there's all the info you need in there :)

I got lazerus (Sharp) and toms for deinterlance.

Lanczos (not lazerus, lol), is somewhat a slow resizer in itself. Keep in mind that at high resolutions, artefacts are less visible, so turning some options down will indeed increase speed and have less visual impact than on SD stuff.
Are you actually upsizing from SD or downsizing from HD video (ex 1920x1080) ?
In the second case it's perfectly normal since you need crazy cpu time just for the decoding.

...this thread is confusing: Is it presently possible or not possible for AGK2.47 to GUI up 264? (If it is, it's unclear, from the above, what should get dumped where in AGK's folder.)

I'm trying to encode with x264 using Gordian Knot and it just says "Sorry, not working yet!" when I click "Add to Encoding Queue" in the encoding control panel. This is using the linked VFW x264 codec. Anyone know what I might be doing wrong? The error is rather vague.

Now it says "Syntax error in reg file G:\gk\VTS_02_0.BUP_firstpass.settings at line 12353." when I click on the First Pass codec settings. Please can someone help me find out what's going on? This is driving me nuts simply getting a program to rips DVDs to H.264.
