Hi there,

First post here and new to the forum

I have been using Gordian Knot and Xvid (Both Latest Versions) for a while and have on the odd occasion had problems with undersize & oversized finished files even though the target size is set.

The last one was in the middle of an 8 episode encode. They were all in queue and working along nicely but one episode refuses to finish at the 746mb at which I have it set at. I have tried 3 goes even deleting the ripped vobs and starting from fresh. Each time it encodes at 830mb finished.

I tried to use AutoGordian Knot - Same problem.

Has me stumped so any advice on this greatly appreciated

Gavin

PS The log file shows correct encode size but file is not

Read this (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=92046). If the recommendations there don't work either, post your GK and AGK log files (which you should have done already).

There is one more possibility that is not covered by that link, unskinnyboy: An install of XviD on top of a previous install of XviD can produce the same bitrate control symptoms. In that case, completely de-installing XviD and then re-installing it seems to solve the problem.

Sure, but it didn't look to me like the OP installed anything new. Especially since he said he had a lot of encodes queued and just one amongst them went wrong. Oh well, I'm just guessing here.

Hmm have deleted everything now and was going to start from fresh tomorrow. I have done 6 encodes now on this one episode and every time it comes out oversized.

I tried 2 more since posting my original thread (different) and they both hit target size spot on. Then I done the problem one again and low and behold..... Oversized. Even Auto GK gave me the same result.

It appears to be in the first pass I think, as when I am encoding the file size usually gets to around 1.2 to 1.3gb then drop back to target when finished. This episode gets to around the 2.2 to 2.3gb before dropping back over the target.

I will do another encode tomorrow and copy the log file... although it shows the correct size that it is suppose to be targeting.

Will also read the link you posted and uninstall & reinstall the Xvid which I downloaded a earlier today to do just that.

I tried a DivX and Virtual Dub came up with an error during the compression run and didn't complete the encode. I am doing another one as we speak in Xvid AutoGK with MP3 not AC3.

Will let you know more tomorrow and post some more detail.
