I have a Pioneer DVR-109 and the ripping speed in dvddecrypter is around 2.4x. My other system has a Plextor that rips aroung 8x. Both are using DMA-2.
Is the Pioneer DVR-109 just not good for ripping? What is the best for ripping speed, or am I doing something wrong?
Thanks for any help

I'm not looking for an opinion. But, which one rips the fastest.

Your Pioneer 109 is certainly capable of higher burn speeds. New Pioneer burners typically ship with the burn speed set at 2X, so that you have to go to an official Pioneer website and download the most recent firmware update for your model...

It has the lastest firmware on it. But it's not the burn speed that's slow, it's the rip speed when using dvdecrypter.

Despite your statement that, "Both are using DMA-2", I'd suggest you look carefully at the setting - It may say "DMA-2 if available" and "Current mode=PIO"

pioneers drives has "riplock" or something, use MediaCodeSpeedEdit to increase read speed

Thanks, I just tried it and I can not flash the bios again. Since it's at the lastest it won't let me. Also, it won't let me go back to an older one either. Is there anyway to flash the bios again, or do I have to wait for a new one to come out?
Thanks

My Pioneer 110D with original firmware don't have any "riplock". :)

you can often get faster rips if you deliberately set the wrong region and use brute force deCSS in DVDdecrypter.
i wouldn't recommend doing this though.
firmware flash is the way to go - my 109 rips nice and fast, but i don't recall what i did to make it that way :)
