Hi everybody,

I know it is an unsupported, (probably always) unfinished product, but I wanted to give Windows Vista (RC2 v5744) a try, alas AutoGK (even v2.35beta) doesnt want to start properly:

First I get an error-dialog saying: "Failed to set data for 'VIDC.YV12'", and opening an AVI brings up: "'25.000' is not a valid floating point value".

I searched the forums but noone seems to be so brave yet, or what is the key on getting it to run properly? Wait till the final product is shipped?

Thanks in advance
MV

I have the exact sme error with Vista .. when I open the program I get the error:
Failed to set data VIDC.YV12

If I click OK then I can load things into the program but wen you add a job the start button never becomes ready or highlightable -- thus you can't get the process to start.

well, its just the beginning of long story "how do I get a program XXX to run on Vista" :)

Hint: right click on AutoGK shortcut -> properties -> compatibility -> "run program as administrator". This will make it start and work ok (its running now on a DVD source in another vmwared window as I type this).

To get AutoGK to work in vista RC2 go into the CTRL+F9 options and disable color correction in the global options. Had to do that and been encoding ever since.
There is no (read NO!!) reason to automatically think setting "run as administrator" fixes anything. This is the single most common answer to anything related to vista and it never works. The problem generally lies in some old program having a fit, or vista's Glass interface having issues, or some other beta OS related issue.

Say it with me...Randomly assigning administrative privileges is a bad idea!

Sorry about the F'ed up tone in my MSG...:stupid: last night my pain meds hadn't kicked in and I guess I was more pissed off then I realized. Just thought I would pop by to say "my bad".

I am a great supporter of Limited User too, brokenmachine65.

Been running it as Administrator, because I wasn't quite sure what was wrong. Prefer your method better. Thanks.

thats what the forums are for, users helping others and telling lenox how cool he is :)

Incompatibility of colormatrix has nothing to do with ability to start AutoGK without VIDC.YV12 error. Its about windows defender protection, which if disabled presents no problems (otherwise AutoGK cannot write system info into the registry).

*Edit* and personally I have no problem running color correction on vista as well... What is problematic is to convert AVI source in it, because DirectShowSource of avisynth doesn't seem to be working there...

I run with windows defender on (default settings) and have no issues running autoGK. I kill the UAC but anyone with at least 2 active brain cells should disable it because it's there to protect the other 95% of the population who have less then 2 active cells :)

Also not that I have switched to the Pre-RTM build and all still works right from fresh install

Hrm, haven't tried re-encoding an avi... maybe I will just for kicks in the latest build

Sorry guys to butt into a conversation with a stupid question(s) ... what is UAC in Windows Defender?
I have found that the only way I can get AutoGK to run without the error is in "Administrator" mode -- is that not really the case?
Is there a way to get a program - if you so choose - to run everytime as administrator mode. The reason I ask is that my D-Link media server program seems to require "administrator" mode to properly update video files when I add or encoded new videos ??

Thanks and pardon the intrusion.

Yes, see my first post in this thread.

As for running autogk I found that different builds of Vista behave totally different. Once its get RTM it will be easier to provide exact instructions...

UAC and Windows defender are different. UAC or user account control is the annoying little thing that pops up and asks "are you sure" about every little thing you do in vista. You can kill it by going to users and clicking the line "turn UAC on or off"
Windows Defender is a little anti-spyware program that has been in testing for the last year on both vista and XP and actually works great.

Is there a way to make programs, i.e. those you might put in a Startup folder, automatically run in Administrator mode in Vista?

brokenmachine65
7th November 2006, 09:49
not that I am aware of... what happens when you run this media server program from d-link under normal usage?

Well other than some not really explainable quirky stuff the thing it for sure does is to not refresh folder contents. There is an option to refresh available media after you have added media to "watched folders". The refresh appears to work but it doesn't really actually add new media. The only way is to completely stop the software and restart in Administrator Mode.

RiptIt4Me does some really weird things in Vista also like when creating PSL files etc. I see where some are apparently using it -- I am probably wrongfully judging the software (and not being introspective enough) but that program has frustrated me even somewhat leading to an argument ith one of the Mods on this forum. I'll learn to keep my mouth shut one day!

Hrm wish I could offer something constructive that would help. IF any of these are freely available I could test them on this pre-RTM build I am running now, the code base is very likely set at this point.

The DLink video server is available at dlink.com under support / downloads and the model DSM-320 0r DSM-520. That sounds like a lot of trouble though but if it's something that interests you that would be great and appreciated !!!

Of course, the RipIt4Me is mentioned a lot on this forum and works with several other programs also mentioned and linked on this forum - DVDDecrypter, FixVTS etc.

If you don't have time I sure understand ! I just appreciate your willingness to help

brokenmachine65

Wait you can't get dvddecrypter to work or fixvts?

In using RipIt4Me - the "OneClick" mode as per the tutorial. In Vista the PSL file is not automatically imported like it does in Windows XP. In the rip folder you can find a RipIt4Me.psl file but no Final.psl (per tutorial: see below

How do you rip using the PSL file created from RipIt4Me?

RipIt4Me creates a PSL file that you can use to rip the DVD even without using RipIt4Me.

Start DVD Decrypter and insert the DVD in your reader. Then select "File" → "Protected Sectors List" → "Import..." in the menu bar of DVD Decrypter.

Browse to the folder where you have the PSL file that you want to import. The PSL file you should use will be named FinalPSLFile.psl, or if you have saved the logs previously, "Movie_Title_RipIt4Me.psl". Do not use the file named "RipIt4Me.psl".

So then if you use the RipIt4Me.psl file for DVDDecrypter youthen after ripping get an error that you have to exit out of once for every vob file -- "Failed to set data for "

All this is very annoying and I haven't been able to test the resultant rip yet or funtionality

Is this not happening with your Vista install?

Oh my goodness let's be careful - it was a post along these lines that got me in trouble, I'm not really so sure why but Imentioned a specific movie.

Anyway I have been using AnyDVD, basically by itself for a long time (months) and had no problems. But then just in the last week or two I had two movies have terrible audio sync issues. When I searched and then subsequently posted I was basically told that the only way you can rip "correctly" was RipIt4Me. I then did a couple of rips with RipIt4Me and had trouble on my Vista machine, like I have mentioned. And for sure some questions even on my XP machine (that's when I posted and got burned - the best I can tell, because I mentioned a particular DVD title).

Bottom line the reason for my even turning to RipIt4Me was because of the audio sync issues and the suggestions of a member on this forum.

If you PM me I will be happy to share the name of the DVD that I had trouble with.

but what I really need is something consistent because of time constraints (it's a hobby but I get in the dog house if I spend too much time)

...I'm not really so sure why but Imentioned a specific movie...After our PMs back and forth, I am at a loss to understand why you do not yet comprehend just what caused your initial trouble here. I will try and level set. Please try not to be offended if I seem to be repeating myself:The copying of rented or borrowed intellectual property is not Fair Use, under our definitions. That was a violation of Rule 6, and a link to our definition of Fair Use was provided in my post in that thread.

As long as brokenmachine is backing up disks he actually owns, and is not sharing the content with others, his activities fall within our definition of Fair Use. Is 10-15/week unreasonable? Possibly, but that is a subjective call I am unable to make with the information I have seen so far. 10-15 per week while going through a collection of 150 disks can take a few months.

You did not get into trouble because of your Rule 6 infraction -- not serious trouble. Instead, you got in trouble because of your ad hominem attack on an other moderator, and on our membership in general. This was a rule 4 infraction and could not be reasonably set aside.

As far as IP theft is concerned, I will repeat what I've told you before. We do not condone it. We cannot stop you (or anyone else) from doing it, but we refuse to support it.As I told you via PM, your initial thread was closed primarily for the purpose of preventing another member from inadvertantly helping you with IP theft, and secondarily to keep you from inserting your foot deeper down your throat.

You have now asked another member to help you complete your IP theft, after being told why your thread was closed. This is your second Rule 6 infraction. You must not have yet read Rule 6, now would be a good time.

And since you have been warned repeatedly about your behavior here, you also have a 30-day suspension in which to think about your actions and your statements. You received a total of 4 strikes.

After 30 days, the slate will be wiped clean, and you are free to return here. Your previous behaviour will not be held against you if you abide by our rules of netiquette, policy, and general decorum upon your return. Quite a few people who have received suspensions have returned and become valuable members of our community.

As I also told you, you are not required to like our rules. But we insist you abide by them while you are here. If you are unable to comply, please, do not return.

Yea for me it's 2 things, my own collection makes up about 1/3 of what I encode the other 2/3 is video archiving for a historical museum i work for.

And as said by the mod I cannot / will not PM to assist with a specific movie because I do not know under what circumstances you are recording it. In general audio sync issues can be from a number of issues one of which is you using an older version of anydvd, if your up-to-date there well I can't help you as I have yet to run into such problems.

When you return to the forums please pm me as by then I should have some vista release on my machine.

What is the status of AutoGK running on Vista now that Vista has been released? Are people still having problems?

I was thinking of upgrading to Vista, I won't if AutoGK does not work.

I just downloaded and installed the latest version on Vista Business, with UAC disabled, and I received an "Unable to create temporary file" error when clicking the preview button.

Following the fix in this thread (Hit CTRL-F9, disable colorCorrection) it now appears to be working fine now.
