i have a problem with the excellent VOB 2 AUDIO. Sometimes it works really really great. Other times I get an error message saying it can't find the audio streams. I get no information in the box so I can't choose a stream to rip.
i always rip the same way, using movie mode in smartripper.

Watch out for an actuell version of streams.exe
Replace the one in the V2A directory and everything should be fine :)

Sometimes v2a doesnt work if the audio stream isnt ligos (i think its that one, it could be the other way around). If it doesnt work you might need to use graphedit or another program. The best way to do audio is to use smartripper and get it to demux the audio file to a seperate file. Then use lame azid gui to do the audio (there is a guide somewhere on how to do it...could be in the gknot section).

thanks, i have been using smartripper to demux when vob 2 audio fails. but sometimes i just want the audio without the movie and i can't seem to do that with smartripper. also, can i just create a prjhect in dvd2avi without ripping the audio to ac3? (as i already ripped the audio in the first stage). i find it more convient and it has completely eradicated sync problems to rip the audio and compress it myself before i attempt to workout a bit rate for the movie. ligos sounds familair, i am sure that is part of the error message. vob 2 audio is great as it just does what i need when i need it. i use the nero mp3 or the radium codec to compress and i've stopped using variable bitrate for mp3 as i am sure this causes my sync problems when splitting the file in virtualdub.

you can use dvd2avi to create a project without ripping with the sound to ac3.

You can do this with SmartRipper. Go to Stream Proccessing, select the audiostream you want and select "Demux to extra File". Be sure that the videostream is unchecked. Then you just start the ripping proccess, and you get only one ore more ac3 Streams and no video.
And it doesn't need longer than a regular ripping proccess.

i tried to do that and it just did the movie anyway. I dont have the latest smartripper (but its not that old either). I guess ill have to try the newest one and see if it works.

Are you sure that you select "Stream Proccessing" and there only the audiostreams you want to extract? You really unselected the videostream?
It should work with older versions either, but try a new one (2.41 is the latest release) and report your experiences, please.

when i select 'no track number' in dvd2avi it still rips the ac3 tracks! its not such a big problem as it only takes 4-10 minutes but its still annoyning. i'll try just ripping the audio with smartripper, the way you described. when i try it in vStrip it automatically deletes the ac3 file it makes!!!!!
thanks for your help!
