View Full Version : DVD Chapters not working

I downloaded the new version of DVD2SVCD 1.0.5 build 2 bundle and ran a DVD last night. Everything else seems to be OK but the DVD chapters are missing. I used internal ripping routines and have no subtitles. Chapters worked fine for me in 1.0.4 build 2.

Below is the cue file for the first CD. The second is similar.

FILE "C:\Program Files\DVD2SVCD\Movie\CD_Image_File_CD1.bin" BINARY
TRACK 01 MODE2/2352
FLAGS DCP
INDEX 01 00:00:00
TRACK 02 MODE2/2352
FLAGS DCP
INDEX 00 00:07:11
INDEX 01 00:09:11
INDEX 02 00:09:12

edit: oops, that was the second file. The first is similar :D

I've got exactly the same problem.

It seems to be a bug...

Is there any solution other than to use an older version?

Yes, in the last 3 releases, including 1.0.5b2, chapters donīt work.

I used DVD2SVCD from july and is the first problem I found.

Itīs no important problem, I simply select "Donīt make images" and
then I use TSCV, and wait a bit that DVD2SVCD can resolve when he returns.

Good job DVD2SVCD, congratulations !

Ą Felices fiestas y prospero aņo nuevo para todos !

Is this when you use Fixed chapters or DVD chapters. Anyway, please post the dvd2svcd xml files to me (and maybe your TSCV xml files too)and I'll have a look (I wonder why my dvd-player uses the chapters perfectly)

I chose only some chapters from my DVD (ca 16 min) and selected fixed chapters (60 sec)in DVD2SVCD. Does PowerDVD 4.0 use chapters? If yes then creating chapters didnīt work though there werenīt any error messages. I canīt post the xml-files for some irrelevant complicated reasons.

BTW: Thanks for this great program!

First try was with DVD Chapters and no go, so I tried with fixed length chapters, and still didn't work.

DVD2SVCD 1.0.5 build 2 ..I choose original DVD chapters and it works just fine. Perhaps it's with what we burn with? I choose TSCV.

I didnīt burn the image! I simulated with Daemon-Tools, which until now always worked for me.

dvd2svcd
22nd December 2001, 21:56
Well, that might be so. And true in the old days I used Daemon-Tools + WinDVD to see if the chapters were working. BUT, I found out that that was unreliable. WinDVD/PowerDVD is not fully SVCD compliant. Only way to test this for sure is using a Standalone player. AND since SVCD's are meant for TV and not PC, I'd rather support chapters that work on TV than on the PC.

Edit: I have just tried with DaemonTools + WinDVD 3.1, and here the chapters also work fine.

mrbass
22nd December 2001, 22:17
It also worked with WinDVD chapters that is. PAGE UP and PAGE DOWN are PREV and NEXT chapter respectively. Even some DVDs WinDVD doesn't allow pulling up the list of chapters.

hmm
i cant gte the chapters to work with powerdvd windvd deamon tools or standalone player.
when it creates the bin/cue file shouldnt the cue file have the chapters in it ? (therefore not being the burners fault)
heres a typical cue file for me:

FILE "H:\svcd image\CD_Image_File_CD1.bin" BINARY
TRACK 01 MODE2/2352
FLAGS DCP
INDEX 01 00:00:00
TRACK 02 MODE2/2352
FLAGS DCP
INDEX 00 00:07:11
INDEX 01 00:09:11
INDEX 02 00:09:12

i get this type of cue file no matter what settings i use for the chapter creation settings.
mr dvd2svcd just wondering how u r getting the chapters to work ?
im using win98 and xp and both do the same
is your installation the full one bundled or is it updated with the zip file.
which particular program does the chapter creation ?

dvd2svcd
22nd December 2001, 23:08
VCDXbuild is making the chapters from an xml file created by dvd2svcd. If you haven't installed the bundle, it's probably because you're using a wrong version of VCDXBuild. Get the right version here (http://www.vcdimager.org/pub/vcdimager/.testing/vcdimager-0.7.12pre1.win32.zip)

But doesn't the xml code that I posted above lack the information necessary to create chapters.

DVD2SVCD was set to use VCDXBuild and original DVD chapters. I used fireburner to burn the CD's and have always downloaded and installed the complete bundle to avoid the problems associated with having the incorrect version of software needed.

As I posted earlier, the chapters worked correctly until I installed the version 1.0.5 build 2 full bundle.

The "dvd2svcd chapters file.ini" shows the program pulled the chapter information from the DVD but the "VCDXBuild_Script_1.xml" does not appear to have all the chapter information needed so I don't think it's really a problem with VCDXBuild because it's not getting the information it needs to build the chapters.

My first attempt was using VCDXBuild with original DVD chapters, I then tried one with VCDXBuild and fixed length chapters. I haven't yet tried using VCD Imager with fixed chapters but will do so on my next encode.

after upgradeding the software to build 1.05 b2 I ripped a DVD & burned it using CDRWin. & the chapters worked perfect in my standalone. but after creating my next Rip there where no chapters!

I even re-ripped the original disk & guess what? no chapters again.

having said that, i couldnt get chapters to work in v1.05 b1.

can DVD2DVCD produce Chapters using CBR?

Up to 1.0.4 build 2 chapters worked fine. After Upgrading to 1.0.5 build 2 I don't get any chapters. I ripped with smartripper 2.40 (split every vob-file) and choosed DVD chapters. I had a look at the xml-file created by dvd2svcd. There is only one entry for the sequence-item at 0.000 called entry-chapt-01. So there shouldn't be a difference whether I use software-player or standalone. Ripped movie should have 9 chapters in the first half.

Same here,

but the strange thing is, on my first test with the 1.0.5 Build 2 and two Chapters (16 + 17) of 'Pitch Black' the dvd chapters with vcdxbuild worked on WinDVD 3.1, PowerDVD 4.0 XP and my dvd-player. But then i wanted to test the change cd picture and title picture feature and from that moment on the dvd chapters never worked again in the 1.0.5 Build 2. I then uninstalled and reinstalled it but no chance, the chapters don't work anymore. Strange isn't it?

I then did a complete reinstall of the 1.0.4 Build 2 and the chapters work perfectly on all software and hardware dvd-players.

And as 'marks430' and 'stadlthanner' said, i think there must be something wrong with the xml-file creation because there is always only one chapter entry with the 1.0.5 Build 2 although the 'dvd2svcd chapters file.ini' has the correct number and position of the chapters in it and is exactly the same in both versions.

Here the xml-file from both versions with exactly the same two chapters and the same settings for dvd2svcd:

I did a complete backup of all files created in both test-runs with the two versions + the dvd2svcd.ini, so i could post any further information you need to track down this bug.

I am trying very hard to find that bl**dy chapter bug. I will post a PreRelease here, when I think I got it nailed. But since it's christmas and all, be a little patient with me.

BTW, I wanted to ask you all, did any of you have to use Crash Recovery during the process?

Not here,

i must say, that on my system (Win2k, Duron 850, Epox 8KTA2) i never had any problems with dvd2svcd. It allways ran very stable on my machine and for the testing i always did a complete run with the versions no recovery.

Could you mail me the following files please (just zip and mail them):

*.d2s

And from dvd2svcd program folder:
