I downloaded a 2 CD divx movie and there's no sound in either. Does anyone know why? Is it a codec thing? Is there a way around it or did the one that made it mess up?

Cheers

right click on the file, select 'properties', select 'sumary' tab - if there's no audio details then someone's either fucked uop the encode, or you're ment to downlaod the audio separetly - ie an .ac3 file or the like.

Or you don't have the right codec. Perhaps it is divx audio, then you have to ínstall divx 3.11. Or it could also be an ac3-audio stream. Then you need ac3 playback filters which can be found on Doom9's site.

There are audio details....it says

Duration 1:02:21
Bit Rate 192kpbs

and I use the DivX 4.11 Codec.

but I'll try downloading the ac3 playback filters (not really sure I know what that is ;)) and installing them.

do you get sound from other things normally? ;)

try downloading the divx 3.11 alpha codec and installing that

Yes I have loads of other DivX's that work just fine right now.
I'll try uninstalling my current codec and installing 3.11 and see if that helps.

Exactly which ac3 playback filters could I use?

tnx

if the other divx's are from divx4.xx and you only have divx4.xx codec installed then they would all play fine and a video encoded with divx 3.11 would play fine but get no audio

install divx 3.11 alpha then install divx 4.12 and choose for it not to play back all divx 3 content, might work

Well I uninstalled all DivX codecs then installed 3.11 tried playing the movie and still no sound.

I then installed 4.12 and said no to playing 3.x content and tried the movie still no sound.

I'm at a loss....maybe I should just try and get another version of the movie. *sigh*
