I'm looking for the bes... Oops, I mean a good (:rolleyes: )filter to get rid of the horrible grain in Aliens, PAL dir. cut. Has anyone had any experience with this title and what filter did you end up using? I'm open for any suggestions and I don't care if it takes some days to encode it.

sample?
btw, h.264 will take care of most of the grain for you :) though it's probably not optimal.

Maybe I should've mentioned that this is for a dvd9 => dvd5 backup using dvd-rb with cce.
Since i really wanna keep the dir. commentary I only have 3200 kbs left for the movie.
Are there any legal implications posting a link to a 3 sec sample of Aliens? :confused:
Never done it before.

A short sample of the movie (2,2 mb) has been added.

bmps... hehe.
looking at a couple of samples, i see no reason that quenc can't handle it with 2-passes and thq qlb matrix. the grain doesn't look all that prominent, and the image is slightly soft and quite dark so that'll make it very compressible.
[edit]
you can give degrainmedian a try though, or removedirt. both are fast and pack a heavy compression friendly punch.

Yup.. Should've used the edit-function. Sorry.
Thanks for the advice. Now I've got something to work with. :)
