I am trying to capture uncompressed Avi. The video quality is good. The problem I have is the audio plays ahead of the video (audio video sync issues). No frame rates are being dropped. I am disappointed, because I purchased both a Western Digital 200GB hard drive and the registered version of Amcap. I really want to capture high quality Avi. Do I need a faster computer and an additional capture card? If so, which processor, motherboard, and capture card would you recommend to accomplish my goals? I do like my ATI 550 for making DVD's. But I also would like to do high quality avi (uncompressed,Huffyuv,MJPEG).

AMD Athlon XP 2600+
Shuttle AN35N Ultra
1000MB PC2700 Memory
ATI 9700 Pro
Maxtor 40GB
Western Digital Caviar 200GB

Hi!

In what format is the audio being captured? Using what codec?

Hi!

PCM audio. The Ati 550 will not let you use any codecs when capturing Avi. I can use Virtualdub to compress the audio to Lame MP3 but the audio is still out of sync. If I use audio skew correction or source framerate adjustment, the video plays in sync for around 25 seconds. But after that it goes out of sync.

Here are some pictures of some information from Amcap and Virtualdub. Can someone examine these and give an opinion on what the problem can be. Thanks!

I'm going to purchase a Turtle Beach Video Advantage pci and use it to capture Avi.

Try next fix with 550, it's working with my AIW:

* open the registry: Start->regedit
* go to this location (if not present, then nothing to do):

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ATI Technologies\MultiMedia\Features\DTV\Channel Manager

* give the key "LiveMode" the value "1"

This turns VoD - Video on Demand - off in ATI WDM driver. To allow recordings while not logged on you need probably to turn VoD on again.

NB! This setting tends to reset itself sometimes. I've even changed registry key permissions to keep value unchanged...

Problem solved! Virtualdub captures video and audio in sync.
