Hello,

I just recorded a movie that was on TV with my winfast power vr tv tuner card on my computer. I saved the movie as a .mpeg format. Now I wanted to watch the movie on my regular TV dvd player (the one that is hooked to my TV set). Can I just take the .mpeg file and copy it to the root directory of a dvd using deepburner? Does it have to be a specific .mpeg format? Right now, I am capturing the file at .mpeg 2 format with a resolution of 640*480. I'm wondering what the maximum resolution is that I could use with the DVD player and what is the best .mpeg format I can use.

Thank you for your advice!

sorry to say, but 640x480 is not supported.

if you want to make a DVD, choose from these sizes:

NTSC:

720x480, 704x480, 352x480 (all mpeg-2), 352x240 (mpeg-1).

all at 29.97fps. interlaced is cool for all but 352x240 (which is basically VCD). i believe 352x240 also supports 23.976fps.

PAL:

720x576, 704x576, 352x576, and in mpeg-1, 352x288 (same as PAL VCD)
all must be 25fps. again, all can be interlaced except 352x288.

additionally, you must limit your total combined bitrate (video + all audio + all subs) to 10.02 mbps. video looks good enough at a max of 8500 - going over that can lead to buffer problems and stuttering playback in action scenes.

Hi!

And if you'd like to know how to apply the parameters detailed by "Mug Funky", one set of procedures (other posters may/probably will suggest alternative methods) would be:

1) If not already DVD-compliant, use "TMPGEnc" (or "TMPGEncPlus") to convert the MPEG to compliant MPEG2-for-DVD format - Use "TMPGEnc's" DVD wizard/template to accomplish this (This step may not be necessary, if your MPEG-2 files are already in DVD compliant format)

2) Use "TMPGEnc DVD Author" (a different program than "TMPGEnc") to easily create the required additional DVD files and structure (and chapters and a menu, if you wish)
You can obtain a FULLY functional free 30 day trial version of this commercial program at:

www.pegasys-inc.com/en/product/tda.html

**If the combined filesize of the DVD "package" written to your hard drive is greater than 4.37Gb, use DVD Shrink (or similar) to compress

If your O/S is either Win2000 or WinXP, TMPGEnc DVD Author can also burn your DVD. Otherwise, use NERO to burn in "DVD-Video" mode
(As an alternative to "TMPGEnc DVD Author", you could use "DVDLab")

Let us know of your success ;>}

BTW - You should check to see if your standalone player is capable of playing "plain vanilla" MPEGs (Many are nowadays). If so, you can simply buirn your files to a blank DVD as a "Data DVD"...
