View Full Version : How to convert all *VOB files in a folder to AVI?

Ok, I ripped a movie DVD to my hard disc.
Now I have a VIDEO_TS folder with a lot of *.VOB, *.BUP and *.IFO files.

As far as I know AutoGK can reencode (ALL) these files to an (ONE) *.avi. How do I do this ?

Do I really have to re-encode all these *.VOB files individually ?

Is there no "select all files and join them into one *.avi" function ?

You should be able to open the .IFO file related to the movie, which will import the entire movie. You can also decrypt in .IFO mode using DVD Decrypter with File splitting set to "none," and you'll get one .VOB file to import.

Fine, it works. However when I load the *.IFO I am asked by AutoGK:

"Several PGCs were found in the IFO file. Please select one of the following PGCs"

What does that mean ? Which should I select ?
I want to re-encode the whole movie.

Typically that refers to angles within the movie. Hopefully it will select the proper portions and not encode them all into the end file with them switching back and forth. If it doesn't work, it would be easier to re-rip the disk in .IFO mode.

Try selecting the first PGC listed. It's usually English, or whichever is the default language of the disk.

Merging the .VOBs to encode will guarantee that all angles will be mixed together into the end file.

Or take CWR03's second suggestion and redecrypt using IFO Mode, which, by default, chooses the longest PGC (your movie).

what if I have several IFO and VOB files? I decrypted several featurettes from a bonus DVD and want to compile them into one avi file to transfer to my PMP. is this possible?

Not directly with AutoGK. Search "merge vob."

Thanks. I got vobmerge and that did the trick. :)

I'm using VobMerge and I love it!
but with the latest version (2.5) I got weird error and I could't work with it

Error: Not Enough Diskspace!

although I have a huge free space, and when I use the older version (2.01) , it works just fine

so what's going on guyz?

PS: I don't wanted to post a new thread

Are outputting to a drive formatted in FAT32?

yeah sure , NTFS
I emailed the programmer of VobMerge and he replied that it's a known bug and I have to make the Destination Directory of the resultant large VOB is the same folder of the VOBs that you're gonna merge

You can also decrypt in .IFO mode using DVD DecrypterAnd this way you can decrypt just the whole movie, angle or episode you want to encode (whether it's in one or several vob files, with only one IFO file), and then it's easier: you only have to load that IFO file in AutoGK and it will automatically load all the associated VOB files.
