Ripped this recently using the same methods that I've always used in the past (which have worked out fine). It's just on this occasion that I noticed when I load the finished XviD encode into GSpot I get this:

Is Garbage at end normal with this particular movie? I ripped it using DVD Decrypter (File). No prob's playing the file (1/2 DVD in size).

Thanks for any guidance regarding this :)

edit -
AVI is not seekable inside MPlayer. Need to use IDX switch or something.
AVI is indicated to be OpenDML multipart
Is this just something related to file size bearing in mind its 2240MB/2.18GB

Hi!Is this just something related to file size bearing in mind its 2240MB/2.18GBVery likely. Try creating a file of less than 2Gb...

Thanks. I was thinking that there was no file limitations at the time that I decided to go with 1/2 SL DVDR size in an AVI. I would like to keep the file around the same size and inside an AVI container. I'm guessing this is possible, but I might need to use some other muxing method?

This 'garbage at end' is the handiwork of VirtualDubMoD (Nandub would do the same thing). If you remux it with AVI-Mux GUI or MPEG4Toolkit, that message should go away. And with the 'garbage' gone, you would see that the AVI overhead also would have reduced. Try that to see if the seeking issue is resolved. But that said, I have never had any issues with such files as far as playback is concerned. MPC, BSPlayer, WMP, VLC, everything plays them fine.

And yes, I have seen this only for > 2 GB OpenDML avis. I think a detailed explanation from Steve (author of GSpot) is warranted to know what exactly he is looking at.

That worked. The garbage message is gone, but still the files are unseekable inside MPlayer. It would be handy if MPlayer detected and configured itself to play AVI's like this. I'll use MPC for this particular file.
