Cutting commercials from mpg

Is it possible to cut commercials from a mpg video file and save as mpg (not as avi) using VirtualDub? If not, is there a freeware utility that could do this?

Not with VirtualDub, but Cuttermaran will. So will Vidomi - it's badly outdated for encoding, but it's a very effective and easy-to-use MPEG-2 editor and does not re-render if you set "Ignore settings and use MPEG copy code" in the General options.
