View Full Version : DVD rip to Divx

I was trying to rip a dvd straight to divx or xvid. I was using a program called ImTOO DVD Ripper Platinum (yeah probably a crappy program but didnt know exactly what to do). When I ripped it the audio sync was off. Some points had good sync but they slowly got worse and then there was a break in the audio and they were in sync once more. The process started over. I was ripping it off the DVD. I just now realize that if I copy the VOB files to my HD that might help.

I was wondering what would be a good program to use for an all in one dvd rip to divx (it really doesnt have to be divx, xvid, or even mpeg 4. I just want it to be a reasonable size.) I am backing up a tv series where each episode is 45 min. I was hoping to have the file size around 350 MB.

Could the problem be fixed with my current program? Should I get another program to rip with? If so, what program? What settings and bitrates should be set for my required size. As you probably can tell I am looking for a quick solution. I'd rather not go through a lot of programs.

Thank you for your help. If anything that I said was confusing (and it probably was) just ask for clarification. Thanks again

There are a number of programs to choose from which are quite easy to use. AutoGK, Fairuse Wizard, Staxrip, the list goes on and on.

I tried all those programs.

When I downloaded Fairuse Wizard AVG Antivirus popped up and said it was a trojan so i didnt install it.

AutoGK said "Too many pictures per GOP (<=500)".

Staxrip had a popup that said something about autocrop and that I need to download more programs. I believe that AutoGK downloaded them.

What I want is a fast and simple DVD to mpeg4 compression. I dont want to copy the vob files to my HD. When I say fast i dont mean the ripping process, but rather the setup.

Hi!I dont want to copy the vob files to my HDThen you likely want to have "AnyDVD" running in the background, performing "on-the-fly" decrypting of your original, commercial, encrypted DVD...

Would be better if you ripped the episodes individually with dvd dercryptor then encoded with (auto)gordionknot.

It's a well trodden path.

i dont really want to use dvd decrypter, and then encode it. For one, I am running out of HD space. It just seems like there should be a program that can rip the dvd right off the disk to mpeg 4 encoding.

ImTOO dvd ripper does work...sort of. the AV is just out of sync most of the time.

(I am thinking in writing. If what I say is bogus pleas correct me)
If i rip the audio and video separately, than I could use TMPGenc to dub in the audio. Dubbing the audio would be a quick process because i wouldnt encode the video again, right? If TMPGenc isnt the right program, what should I use?

I did read it, but it didnt work.

I am not sure what you mean by "on the fly." Is it a setting that I have to configure or turn on in the AnyDVD UI, or do I just have to let AnyDVD run in the background with all the default settings enabled?

I ripped while AnyDVD was running with all the default settings. I had the same problem.

I ripped while AnyDVD was running with all the default settings. I had the same problem.1) By "same problem", do you mean an out of synch result, or something else?

2) What is the Title and Region of the DVD?

You should really consider a hardware upgrade, at least a larger or secondary harddrive, if you don't even have room for a DVD rip and the encoded files. It's faster to rip and encode separately than it is to read files directly from the disk, plus AutoGK doesn't handle episodic disks properly by itself much of the time.

I have enough space for 1 dvd maybe 2. but I plan on backing up multiple dvd's. It seems like it would be faster to just do a quick dvd to 5 divx files. And then I would begin to run out of space when i have 5 350MB files. as soon as i get 4.7GB worth of those files i would off load them to dvd.

stargate sg-1: season 3 volume5This has nothing to do with your request thatIt just seems like there should be a program that can rip the dvd right off the disk to mpeg 4 encoding.

This MGM release should have no "special" or newer copy protection, so that can't be the cause of your rip/conversion not being in synch.

1) Have you played the original, commercial DVD to see if IT is out of synch?

2) What software and procedures did you use, in conjunction with "AnyDVD" to compress/convert to XviD or DivX?

The dvd was fine. I figured out that the problem was in fact the imtoo software. I tried the software DVDFab and that works fine. The only problem was the software.
Although I don't like that I have to do one episode at a time with DVDFab, the AV is in sync. So, I am much happier.

It had nothing to do with copy protection. I used a DVD Shrink copy of one of my dvd's in conjuction with IMToo dvd ripper and that had synch problems toon.

Thank you all for your help and time. I know you all tried to help.

PS if you know how to rip multiple titles w/ dvdfab (DVD to Mobile) please tell me
