I’m trying to make a copy of Grey’s Anatomy, the first season – the first DVD recorded fine - I can jump through the menu and choose any episode, but with the second disk there are no menus, main or other wise, and close captioning is ON - When I put in the disk, the first episode just starts and there is no way to get to the Menu so I can't choose any episodes other than the first one
Any suggestions on what is happening and how I can fix it?
I'm using Ripit4me and DVDshrink.

No, it works fine, as does the copy I made of the first disk.

maybe :) I'll have to figure out what that is and how to get it. I think there was some kind of message at the end of one of the phases that said something about a log file - I'll look. I may have to go through the whole process again, which is no big deal, it will just take a bit longer.

As part of your using the "RipIt4Me" package, make sure to use the "FixVTS" procedure...

I checked the RipIt4Me preferences and there's an option called "remove useless menu cells" that is apparently checked by default - could that be causing my problems? but then, if so, why does the first disk work just fine?

a friend said Grey's Anatomy season 1 second disk had some extra encoding on it and to use AnyDVD, but that didn't work either - I still have no way to navigate the episode menu and Close Captioning is on

Have you tried using DVD Decrypter by itself? RipIt4Me or FixVTS may be removing something it shouldn't be. There doesn't appear to be any special protection on any of these disks.

were you able to make a working copy? What do you do?

I didn't copy them, I just rented and watched them. I did make an .ISO of one with DVD Decrypter and played it with PowerDVD just to see if it worked, but I don't recall if it was the first disk or not.

hmmm, interesting, I still have to wonder why I'm having problems? - the last time I did it I tried DVDfabDecryptor and the Close Captioning was gone but I still don't have menu functionality, but supposedly DVDshrink doesn't do that, but if that's true why did it work on the first disk?

thanks for the info

why did it work on the first disk?Because one disc has nothing to do with the other. The companies are free to do whatever they want with regard to protection schemes - including using a protection scheme on one disc but not another, even in a multiple DVD set...
