Okay, I have an AVI with a bad frame (screen stays still, audio continues) and I figure I can lose 1 second or so of video fixing it. Anyways, I read on another site I can use VirtualDub to do this. But when I load the AVI file, I get this error message:

Couldn't locate the decompressor for format 'DIV3' (Microsoft High-Speed MPEG4 V3 [Hack: DivX Low-Motion)]

VirtualDub requires a Video for Windows (VFW) compatible codec to decompress video. DirectShow codecs, as Windows Media Player, are not suitable

Can anyone help, cause I have no idea what this means!!! :S

EDIT: According to Windows Media Player, the video's encoders are:

Audio Codec: AC3Filter
Video Codec: Nero Video Decoder

Don't know if this helps or not.

UPDATE: After doing some Google searching, I downloaded DivX 3.11 and not only does VirtualDub open the file, but the bad frame seems to be gone too!!! The real test will be if my Sansa Media Converter will be able to convert it so will will work in my MP3 player.

do you have ffdshow installed? if so, go to the vfw codec configuration, select decoder tab and enable DivX3 support. then it should work to decompress your file in VDM..
--> no need for DiVX 3 codec

ffdshow VFW != DirectShow

So, will ffdshow work or not??? After installing DivX 3.11, when converting for my Sansa it got past the "bad frame" but later failed with reasons: Unknown. I then downloaded DivX 6, and when it got to 100% the whole program crashed, and following the Microsoft links it seems the problem is with DivX (possibly conflicting with DivX 3.11???). So yeah, if something else would work, then great.

@Electrify

Hi!

1) From what source material did you create this problematic DivX v.3.11-compressed .AVI?

2) Why don't you simply use your original source material to again create an .AVI?
