You can try virtual dub mod. Open the AVI and go to streams.

Then select the .mp3 and click "demux"

Download VirtualDubmod and open your AVI file. Click streams -> stream list. Click on the audio stream you want to extract; then click demux to remove the stream losslessly, or click decode to decompress the audio to a .wav file. This will work for any audio stream in an .avi file (first/second etc.)

Use TMPGEnc to encode an Audio Only file from it.

Don´t you mean .WMA instead of .MP3. Cause as far as I know WMV only carries propietary WM streams (WMV and WMA).
U can load the WMV in GraphEdit and dump the audio as WAV.
