Ok so i have a Panasonic HT70. its on the DVD+RW com list
I tried making a copy of the grinch(Its to big to fit on one disk so I lower'd the quality on some of the vobs and deleted the vobs of extra crap)
Now it plays in power DVD4 just fine.
But it refused to play in either ps2 or ht70
So I tried another movie. This time my kids Disney's Dumbo
Now it turned out to be 6gigs so i ended up just deleting the extra vobs(i checked each to make sure)
I copied everything cept those vobs? and it didnt work
Ok so now im trying a anime dvd of mine, Its small enough to fit on one disk. hoping it works
I need info on media. Is there two types of media? one thats meant for video on dvd players? Because one brand(memorex) says for use only with dvd+rw drives.(testing this media now)
Hp blank dvd+rw was what I tried before
Aside from that can the ps2 read dvd+rw? I cant find any info on that. It gives a disc read error while the HT70 system gives a No Disc LCD/ This disc format(i think) cannot be read
Also im using nero burning rom. What settings do I choose? Ive drive UDF/iso and UDF
Does 8.3 fileformat/255 dir/64char matter? joilet or other. Or should I uncheck all?

Unless you are using version 5.5.6.4 of Nero, it won't work. Folder names must be uppercase.
There is a guide for nero users at http://mpucoder.kewlhair.com/derrow/index.html
and test files for burning at http://mpucoder.kewlhair.com/

My PS2 will not play either DVD-R I've tried. Both play fine in PowerDVD XP and the TDK plays in my friends Pioneer DV-444, but neither in the PS2. I've tried TDK and Pioneer brand blanks.

Yes, DVD - I'll check with Derrow about why he showed that. Also, I've never read of anyone getting a DVD-R/RW to work in PS2. That doesn't mean it can't be done, just that no one has reported doing so. I would think of all the media types that DVD+RW would work, since that also works in my ancient Creative DVD, but, again, not sure.

Several users have reported success (games and movies) with DVD-R on PS2. Check this thread (http://www.cdrom-guide.com/ubb/Forum12/HTML/006410.html). You can find there more messages about DVDR&PS2.

I think dvd-r is the way more compatible format.
Anyone got an answer that is based on facts ??

I have exactly the same problems. I have a Ricoh MP5120A writer and I have ripped a DVD smaller than 4.3 GB. I have made a DVD+RW with Nero 5.5.6.4 and my Kenwood DVF 5020 player does not accept the DVD+RW (or the data??).
The Kenwood is a rebranded Panasonic I think. After inserting the DVD+RW it identifies it as a DVD (the red DVD sign is on) but then the display shows "no play".
Any ideas?
btw, the Kenwood is (like all Kenwood player) on the DVD+RW com list, too.

DVD+RW isn't an approved/sanctioned format for anything.
http://www.dvdforum.org/forum.shtml
Please note that the "+RW" format, also known as DVD+RW was neither developed nor approved by the DVD Forum. The approved recordable formats are DVD-R, DVD-RW and DVD-RAM.
What is the DVD Forum?
The Forum is a voluntary association of hardware manufacturers, software firms and other users of digital versatile disc (DVD) formats. The Forum has two major purposes:
1. To establish a single format for each DVD application product, including revisions, improvements and enhancements for the benefit of consumers and users
2. To promote broad acceptance of DVD products on a worldwide basis, including the entertainment, consumer electronics and IT industries as well as the general public.

Just like an editorial, you should read the other side's statements as well. http://www.dvdrw.com/
You'll note both organizations are voluntary, and Sony belongs to both. They both promote their own agenda.
None of which determines compatibility, which is what we are trying to do.
btw, virtually all of the software available from this site is not sanctioned by the DVD Forum, yet it works.

Software? Doesn't have anything to do with it. I'm talking about hardware.
The DVD Forum is the orgination that maintains the The DVD-Video specification. That spec. is what hardware manufactures use.
As far as the other side, wasn't impressed at all by their list of 9 members.
I buy all of my products from Video Guys (http://www.videoguys.com/) , Safe Harbor (http://www.sharbor.com/) , and Visiblelight (http://www.visiblelight.com/) All are professional stores. Not only do they not sell the DVD+RW, it isn't even mentioned there.
But if it works for you, that's what matters.
Someone will come out with an all-in-one sooner or later.
Claims of a DVD+R due out soon, claim to be closer to the DVD-R specs anyway.

@Ruffy, @,mpucoder:
I have tried a lot of things the last 5 days. I can now write down what I have found out with my new Ricoh DVD+RW writer. Note that these experiences ary only in combination with my Kenwood DVD-Player. As I read, the Kenwood DVF 5020 I used is a rebranded Panasonic.
I ripped a DVD that was less than 4.3 GB, then I tried to burn it.
First: Nero 5.5.6.4
In every case it works fine on a PC with Power-DVD. On my Kenwood no success. I tried UDF, UDF-Bridge, with Joliet, without Joliet, nearly every setting. I think more than 30 tries with different settings. Result: No success. The DVD+RW did not work burned with Nero on my Kenwood player.
Second: B's recorder Gold Version 3.04:
To become faster I downloaded the small test image I used instead of my ripped DVD. I tried "B's recorder Gold" enclosed with the DVD+RW drive. (Version 3.04). The same as in Nero, all settings tried, every version fine on my PC, no chance on my Kenwood player.
Then I thought I bring the drive back to my dealer because my player is not compatible (but it was in the DVD+RW com list).
I thought: Last try to check if my player can read DVD+RW:
Third: MyDVD
I used MyDVD and made a new project. I imported a small mpeg file I created from a trailer with ReMPeg and burned direct to DVD. I put the DVD into my player:
SUCCESSFUL! IT WORKED! The Kenwood player accepts the disk without any problems. The first DVD+RW that worked.
No. 4: Nero 5.5.6.4 with test image
Then I tried again Nero with the test image(s) without success.
No. 5: B's recorder gold Version 3.19
I updated B's recorder Gold to version 3.19. I burned a test image. That worked! But the Player did not autostart the disk after inserting it. But I can press "Play" to run the first track (the "OK" screen).
Finally I used only the movie from my rip and used IFOEdit to regenerate the Ifo-files like described by Commander XJL here: http://rilanparty.com/vbb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=11411
Thank you , Commander, that worked great! I burned again with B's V3.19 The first movie that really worked. And it started automatically in my player, as I want.
But the complete ripped DVD: No chance. If I burn it it does not work with my Kenwood standalone. mpucoder, any idea?
So, Ruffy, first try a project containing a piece of mpeg in MyDVD to make a check if your Panasonic player really is compatible. And don't forget to activate "Enhanced player compatibility" in the preferences.
BTW, here are my settings for B's:
Activate "Emphasizes reading compatibility" in Files -> Options -> DVD+RW.
Select "Mode 1" in Files -> Options -> Track.
Select "MSDos..." in Files -> Options -> Track.
Activate "Disk at once" on the main screen, automatically "Close Disk" will be activated.

@disturbed1 - I guess you didn't get my point. The DVD Forum is an organization of manufacturers, their sole purpose is to promote their own products. That claim on their page is both true, and blatantly misleading. There is no "authority" governing DVD, no standards. The DVD Forum (formerly DVD Consortium, until they realized the connotation that has in English) is not an international standards organization. Nor are they the only people involved in DVD, that list takes 2 printed pages.
As for why certain media do or do not work in particular devices depends on 3 factors: reflectivity, focal length, and wavelength. For that you need to see another group, www.osta.org
Since DVD+RW matches the characteristics of stamped DVD well enough for virtually all devices to read it, that only leaves one reason why the media will not work in PlayStation 2. That would be intentionally refusing to read the media based on it's media-header information, which identifies the disk as rewritable. This would be done to discourage piracy.

mpucoder, (Merry X-Mass/Happy Holidays:))
Ok.
The "Movie industry" uses/aproves DVD-R not DVD+RW.
Do you know why? Is it because DVD+RW is, RW. What about DVD+R, will it gain better support from professionals? Every production house I've talked with laughs at the DVD+RW technology. No one supports the DVD+RW technology, nore do they plan to.
Also could you provide some info on differences between the two (a link or something). I know DVD-R was designed to exactly replicate DVD-Video (without CSS, which is the difference in the wave lengths).
All, and DVD-R IS certified by the International Organization for Standardization. http://www.iso.ch/iso/pages/CatalogueDetailPage.CatalogueDetail?CSNUMBER=34214&ICS1=35&ICS2=220&ICS3=30
They don't have anything for DVD+RW.
Also Toshiba owns the licensing for DVD-Video. They happen to be a member of the DVD Forum also.
Which OSTA (the link you provided) lists the DVD Forum as Licensing?
http://www.osta.org/technology/links.htm
http://www.dvdfllc.co.jp/ (maybe usefull?)
