Changing the windows xp Icon for .mp4 files, my computer thinks they are audio only

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v57/nukesgoboom/helpe.jpg

my windows xp computer thinks .mp4 files are audio only, and associates them with winamp. i have disabled support for.mp4 in winamp, and even told windows to associate .mp4 files with MPC, but it STILL shows that damn winamp icon, it makes it very confusing for me.

is there any way to change the icon to a regular video icon like for .avi files?

thanks for your time.

Open a new explorer window (right click on start then explore)
Choose "tools" - then "Folder options" then file types

Create a new file type named "mp4" then click the advanced button and pick an association such as "movie clip"

That's the basic idea.

Try logging off and back on (or killing and restarting explorer.exe manually). Sometimes explorer stops updating icons after a while, although it should still respond with the correct action when right/double-clicked.

Otherwise, it might be registry hunting time.

thank you guys for your replies and your help i was finally able to fix it.

i had to CREATE a new mp4 extention association, OVERWRITING the old .mp4 which was tied to winamp, and then chose MPC to open it.

sure enough, the icon is now a video clip icon.

thanks again.
