Does the problem go away if you add this reg key?
[HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Scrunch\WMVideo] "DXVA"=00000000

Open up Notepad, add this:
[HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Scrunch\WMVideo] "DXVA"=00000000
Save as a .reg file, then add that .reg file to the registry by double-clicking.
Then try a WMV file and see whether the problem occurs again.
That about right zambelli?

Not quite, it needs to be:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Scrunch\WMVideo]
"DXVA"=dword:00000000
or regedit will complain about an invalid file.

Is there any reason why you are using the drivers that came with your card and not downloading the newest version from nvidia's website?

Try to play it with MPlayer and check if there's the same problem:
MPlayer for Windows (http://mulder.brhack.net/public/downloads/MPUI.2006-08-28.Full-Package.exe)

Did that file play before ? Are you sure it's not a corrupted file ?

This may be the wrong thread for this conversation but i couldn't find it anywhere else.
In the reg key HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Scrunch
1. What's the difference between Post Process and current post process?
0 is weak
4 is strong
2. Any other value tunes it automatically?
3. What is the standard setting upon install of wmp11?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

When no value is specified, the level of postprocessing varies during playback. If you set those registry keys manually, you are forcing a certain level of postprocessing all the time. Have a look at zambelli's WMV9 PowerToy (http://www.citizeninsomniac.com/WMV/).

I'm not sure exactly what function those two keys serve. If you want to override the post processing behavior then you'll need to make a 3rd key.
The registry key is HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Scrunch\Force Post Process Mode. Set it to one of the following values.
0 The decoder performs no postprocessing.
1 The decoder performs deblocking.
2 The decoder performs strong deblocking.
3 The decoder performs deblocking and deringing.
4 The decoder performs strong deblocking and deringing.
