View Full Version : Create region locked dvd

I live in Region 2 and I want to test if my dvd player is region free or not - I think I successfully made it region free, but I have no non-R2 dvds to test in it.

So, it hit me that I could make one. Trouble is, I have absolutely no idea how... :)

It doesn't matter if it's a video file from my computer or a copy of one of my existing dvds - as long as a region 2 player would refuse to play it due to the region lock.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Hi!

If you have a FULL DVD "package" (.IFOs, .BUPs, .VOBs) on your hard drive, use DVD Decrypter as follows:

DVD Decrypter>>Tools>>IFO>>Region Patch

Ok, maybe the day after (the day after) tomorrow... :)

DVD Decrypter (that was hard to find! :)) is extracting my Hellboy DVD right now (and taking ages :))

I assume, once I've extracted and modified the dvd contents, I can re-burn it with normal dvd burner software? I use DeepBurner.

[edit]Hellboy is dual layer and my drive can only burn single layer... Oops :)
Do I have any that are less than 4.7GB?

Hellboy is dual layer and my drive can only burn single layerUse DVD Shrink to compress your DVD rip to DVD5 (single layer) size - maybe next week ;>}...

Good news: I found a <4.7GB dvd! DVD Decrypter reported it as Region 2, 4, with no RCE protection.

I extracted the files with DVD Decrypter
I clicked DVD Decrypter>>Tools>>IFO>>Region Patch>>Region 4 - selected all the extracted dvd files, and it said it patched all of them. I then used DeepBurner to burn the VIDEO_TS folder to a blank DVD+RW.

Bad news: I think I did something wrong. DVD Decrypter reports my copy as being all regions instead of just region 4 (it says Region 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8)

What did I do/not do?

Setting the Region in the DVD Layout has no effect what so ever on burnt media. The Regioncode is applied during replication. Recordable Media will always be regionfree.

So, I can't burn a dvd myself that's region locked?

So, DVD Decrypter will show it as being all regions, but a region locked standalone player will still acknowledge the specified region?

Imho it depends on the player...

To answer my own question, yes the standalone player does recognise the region.

I put in my DVD+RW and it said wrong region, I typed in the unlock code and put the DVD back in and it played.

All is well!

Thank you all for your help.
