here my unforgettable story...i am a total newbie in dvd high def...so dont beat me to hard;)

my 12 bit videoplayer wit div x capability, died last day a fater 7 months of light use(1 to 3 movies a week)...a philips with weak motor probably.

so the shop gave me in exchange a philips dvp5900 with hdef capabilities.well, i took the same brand becasue it play all my media and there is sub capabilitie...

i use a projector 800x600 with no hdmi input...and i dont know what hdmi is.the projector has a 24 pin plug(usuall for computer)
thats the first time i have this kind of player in my hand.

i am interested to play divx and basic dvd and i use the cmponent cable to my projector.and i need subtitle too cus US movies are hard to understand sometimes....speacialy for a non native english speaker like me...

and after a research on the 5900 player of philips, it say it is 10 bit video when my broken dvd player was a 12 bit...is that a big difference.do u see any difference when playing???

can i play High def video and use he component cable or should i use the hdmi cable.

well u have undrstood i can not get a new same model, cus the shop dont have it any more...

any suggestion?is this high def so great??is there a cable from hdmi to this PC plug on my projector...

Hi John,

We actually have a "hardware players" section within the forum where most if not all of your questions can be answered...

can i play High def video and use he component cable or should i use the hdmi cableNot unless you buy a player fitted with chip-set that's capable of supporting high-def sources!

That said, most players fitted with HDMI can up-scale std-def sources to "pseudo" high-def, via the HDMI output and/or via the component outputs...

is there a big difference between 10 and 12 bit video...the best would be to try, but with no reference it is hard to say.

is there a big difference between 10 and 12 bit video...the best would be to try, but with no reference it is hard to say.Technically, I suppose, 12 bit video should be superior to 10 bit video. However, more important is the design/build quality of the player, the chip-set, the internal components (inc the PSU), the CD/DVD loader and the maturity of the firmware!

thank u,

well i did some test...dont see any difference between 10 vs 12 bit.
the subtitle are much better. nice white letters.
the loader is more firm and faster.

i dodnt see any quality improvment when upscaling the image.

have HD player a better laser? so i dont see the point to go bluray now!! right?in europe, i have not seen yet HD movies!
only some documentaries.

have a good one!
