I need to encode my FLAC to MP3, how can I do this in a patch and with tags preserved? Or is there an easy way at all?

Just use V2 -vbr-fast beaciuse new vbr metod is better and faster than older

Better in terms of quality also I assume. What about LAME.exe version? I have v3.96.1, is there any particular version that is the best?

Are you sure ? Isn't -V -f instead ?

Whatever..Use --vbr-new switch with 3.97b3 release. That's all.

-f = -q 7
-q 7 disables the psymodel
The psymodel is required to use VBR.
At most, using -f with a vbr setting will result in the use of -q 6 (minimum -q setting for vbr).

Oh, and dBpowerAMP (http://www.dbpoweramp.com/dmc.htm) can convert with tags too
