Hi. I'm having this strange problem. Whan I burn a TDK DVD-R, I receive no error and my player plays it smoothly, and so I'm in love with this brand.
The error is that I cannot understand why my DVD Player plays it perfectly, but my PC's DVD drive doesn't even see it!
The result is that I have excellend DVD which I can see only at my home!
I recently took another external DVD unit, and the result is this: 99% of The TDK of the best brand are read, but 1% of them an the ones of a lower sub-type (always DVD-5 , but blue instead of silver, and maybe cheaper) cannot be read!
Please note: 100% of the Verbatim DVDs can be read , but 30-40% of gave me errors during burning, and I stopped using them.
Is there a software solution or I cannot read those DVD-R if I don't make a hardware change (which I will NOT do)?
Thanks for any help

I assume the DVD-ROM that cannot "see" the disk is not the same drive with which it was burned? I know that I have an older DVD drive that can't see a burned DVD-R, whether it's a video or data disk.

I have a NEC 3550A that burns excellent but also will not turn around and 'see' the movie it burned to play it. A past Pioneer A06 became the same way after I updated the firmware the first time and no later firmware versions helped it either. A very odd thing indeed! Both of these burners would read and play a real DVD everytime.

Hi!99% of The TDK of the best brand are read, but 1% of them an the ones of a lower sub-type (always DVD-5 , but blue instead of silver, and maybe cheaper) cannot be read!Although the "brand name" ("TDK") may be the same, the media is likely manufactured by different companies/factories - and is of different quality...

I had the same problem. 4 our of 4 TDK-Rs burned well enough to play on the DVD-recorder player that made them, but would not play at all on mulitple PC DVD players.
I switched to Sony DVD +Rs, and the problem went away.
I posted this result to this forum, and many suggested that switching to +R was not the solution but a coincidence; rather, it was suggested that the TDK -R media was problematic, and that had I tried a different brand or batch of -R media, it would have fixed the problem as well. I remain unconvinced.

I used to use TDK when they were RICOH JAPAN. I never had a problem. But I stopped using them when the TDK spindles in stores in my area switched to CMC.
I like the MIJ Sony branded TY spindles of 50.

As for DVD media, I only use TYs and Ridata Ritek. A long time ago supermediastore had sold me the TDK DVD-Rs and were TDK made. But I decided to go with the TDK+R and was sent CMC media with TDK on them. supermediastore advertised them as being 'Branded' TDK which I took for their own made, not out sourced. So we had an email battle for weeks and soon promised me they would add the media code to them so that all would know before hand what we were getting. I took it I may not have been the first to complain...LOL So now they do do that ever since and today I only buy from them. TYs and the Riteks have done me extremely well and so I have no reason to change brands.
