OK, I decided it was time to quit using FairUse and try my hand at one of the Divx4 encoders. So natuarly I choose Gordian Knot because it seems to be the most userfriendly program out. I'm having a hard time with getting predictable file sizes like I did with FairUse. I've tried using the compressability check option to help with this, but I can't seem to get it to work. I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

I got the same problem!!
Check this out! :

I encoded Deep Blue Sea with AC3 and credits seperately, 720x304.
1.setting filesize to 1400mb would give me a 1379mb movie! (1551kbps, credits enc=20%, recalculate=on bits/pixxfr=0.284)
2.setting filesize to 1465mb would give me a 1374mb movie!!!! (1645kbps, credits enc=20%, recalculate=OFF bits/pixxfr=0.300)
3.setting filesize to 1425mb would give me a 1399mb movie(finally)! (1586kbps, credits enc=20%, recalculate=on bits/pixxfr=0.290)

And another ex:
I also encoded Titan A.E. with AC3 and credits seperately, 720x304.
1.setting filesize to 1440mb would give me a 1335mb movie(my god)! (1819kbps, credits enc=20%, recalculate=OFF bits/pixxfr=0.332)
2.setting filesize to 1430mb would give me a 1387mb movie! (1803kbps, credits enc=50%, recalculate=on bits/pixxfr=0.330)
3.setting filesize to 1450mb would give me a 1402mb movie! (1834kbps, credits enc=50%, recalculate=on bits/pixxfr=0.335)

Ooof!
So:
1. The recalculate option should 'ALWAYS' be ON (dont try to calculate the bitrate as i my self tried-you will probably fail!)
2. There is a BIG BUG or something here (encoder or GKnot i cant say!) so that the encoder cant predict the filesize correctly.
3. The higher the bits/pixxfr is, the greater the calculation mistake. I guess Doom9 is correct when saying that above 0.35 you cannot reach the filesize(but what about 0.284??? it is close to 0.27)
4. Something has to be done. Hasnt anyone else encountered this? I cant rip 3 times in order to reach 1400mb!

Please try to make conclusions and give similar ex. so that we will be able to deal with this 'problem'.

I don't think TheWEF has sorted the size predicability with using the divx 4 codec, although i might b wrong now :)
My suggestion is to use divx 3 cos GKnot calculates EXACT file sizes using that :D

The problem is in the DivX4 codec. It's not fully predictable.
