DAMN! I really need to extract a little part from some anime episodes before xmas, the files are AVI, but Virtualdub keeps telling me it doesnt have support for ASF anymore, and thus cant open them! But they arent ASF!
And i downloaded a edited version which support ASF, but tells me the same error!
Anyone who can pleeease help me fast? or tell me another way to do this?

I would use an older version of Virtual Dub that does support ASF. You should be able to get it from www.afterdawn.com

first of all: just because it has a .AVI extension doesnt mean in actually IS avi. if VirtualDub says it's ASF, it probably is. As phaysonwulfe said: just dl an older version of VirtualDub

Everyone's answer to using ASF files is to use the old VDub. However this doesn't help. This is because MS restrict the access to their codecs. So although old VDub can parse the file, it cannot decode it (and will report, WMV2 Codec not found, or similar). However, it does work if the ASF/WMV file was encoded using MPEG4v3 (but this is rare)
Try using AVISynth ( DirectShowSource(...) ) or graphedit.
Hope this of help to some,

ps
If the file was an AVI with the extension changed to ASF. VDub would recognise that and load it fine. So im afraid the files you have are probably ASF/WMV files.
